Hell not even Obama apologized to the Japanese for it. But I'm sure he 'felt lots of regret for it!'

Yes, what we did to Japan was a war crime and Americans refuse to acknowledge that because we are a nation of ethnocentric self-absorbed jerk-offs who can get away with ANYTHING. It makes me want to vomit every time I think about it. Seriously! :eew:

And Persephone, you call it drama, I call it an inconvient truth.

What was bad was that because individuals wanted revenge on the Japanese, they delayed the information that Japan had already surrendered until after the two A bombs were dropped, thus resulted in the largest war crime in history and no one was held accountable for this.

Where did you read this?

I saw it on the UK television about the event. Though I am not 100% sure, it may have been on WW2 History. We have such programs going into details of WW2 here on one of the channels.

The rest of the world knows things about us that we don't because most American history is really just self-glorifying propaganda.

From July 26 to August 6th is a long time to surrender. Did the surrender by carrier pigeon?

The day that the majority of Americans actually accept the fact that what they did to Hiroshima and Nagasaki was cruel, inhumane, and monsterous (just like stealing the land away from the natives here and burning down entire towns and crops during the Civil War) is the day that I might forgive this country.

Until then, f**k America!

Don't dissrespect your country though. Rhere is a LOT of good about the USA. Every country has good and bad. Lets seek the good and try to change the bad.

We can't change the past.

There's plenty of bad going on right now though. I guess people have forgotten about Trump reopening the former Japanese internment camps to cage up illegal hispanic immigrants and their children like animals or abandoning our allies the Kurds to be slaughtered in Syria by the Turkish government after they helped us to fight Isis. Or Trump pulling us out of the Paris climate agreement.

Trump is just proving to the rest of the world what a sh***y and unreliable country the US really is. I doubt we'll ever bounce back from this after he f***s everything up even worse than it was to begin with.

One of the worst things they did though, was the deliberate and systematic killing of the buffaloes and the Battle of Wounded Knee.

But most countries have dome similar things. A lot of terrible things went on during the SA apartheid government which they kept well secret because the press couldn't speak out, there was political censorship.

Speaking of Obama, I really love how he refused to apologize to Japan for what we Americans did to them during WW2 but then goes on about how nice it is that Americans and Japanese became 'friends' after the war.

Yeah, just like the big kid on the playground who bullies the smaller kid into giving him his lunch money and doing his homework for him or else bigger kid will beat the living hell out of smaller kid and then claiming they are now 'friends'.

I feel like that's America's foreign policy in a nutshell.

Well, I think you might be in for a lot of unforgiveness. I don't think anyone relishes what happened to Japan. I don't think any country other than Iran is anxious to repeat the devastation. WW 2 would potentially have gone on a lot longer, Japan pulled the trigger on December 7th, 1941. Over 3 years went by, the US entered the war because of Pearl Harbor. Japan was given roughly 2 weeks to surrender... they didn't. Why don't you hate Japan for starting the US response? Just curious? Is it more 'woke' to hate the US?

Except of course for the many racist white folks in this country who were alive during the war (or had parents and grandparents during the war) and were taught that "The only good Jap is a dead Jap".

You know why I'm more angry at Americans for Hiroshima and Nagasaki than I am Japan for Pearl Harbor? Because we were NEVER punished for what we did! We were PRAISED for it! And I don't think for one minute that buying the trust of other countries we had destroyed with money makes up for the cruel s**t that we did

But clearly I'm waisting my time and energy on people like you. So whatever. I'm done. f**k America!

The great majority of Americans alive today weren't even alive yet when the first two atomic bombs had been dropped, and can't be held accountable.

Sweden is a great country, and there are few other places I'd want to live. That being said, it's hardly flawless: instead of doing the great things we could be doing with our sky-high taxes, we waste money on frivolous and useless objects and projects in the name of good optics. Our politics are a mess; our two biggest parties are pressed up against one another and inching ever so slowly towards one another politically in an effort to ever so slightly shift the balance in their own favour, while having the proverbial boat staying as still as possible so as to maintain the new status quo for as long as possible after it happens. No one wants to touch serious and messy issues like immigration, unless it's to say that it's working great and taking in the huge numbers we do makes Sweden a moral superpower and damn the consequences. ISIS who?

But I think the particular issue that annoys me the most is the relentless naiveté that I suspect comes from not having seen war in 200+ years. During the Cold War we had one of the strongest and most advanced standing armies in Europe. But when the Berlin Wall fell, suddenly someone decided that being prepared was now an outdated concept.

We sold off huge bits of the military. We adopted NATO-standard equipment and weapons for our army on the assumption that we'd get military aid from outside in the event of war (did I mention Sweden isn't a member of NATO?).

When cyclone Gudrun struck (2005) we were caught with our pants down so bad it actually impacted the sitting government in the election. And now in recent years we've been having problems with forest fires, and that's when suddenly it's discovered that the helicopters and planes that we should've been able to rally...had been sold to the balkans as military surplus or something, and we had to sit on our arses with seven active forest fires on our hands for weeks waiting for two planes to arrive from Italy. Just...WHAT?

Granted, there seems to be some initial initiatives to improve things; the revival of Muskö and the reintroduction of military service, to name a few.
