If this was intended to be a rebuttal of my reply to you, it's a catastrophically poor one. Feeling under the weather? Or was this an apathetic token response in defence of a position that you're not all that attached to?

I don't use Reddit on the grounds that the entire thing appears to be a cesspit. It stands to reason that adopting Redditers as the stereotypical default of any demographic would give you a skewed view of said demographic.

No, this is a terrible question because you're implying women who aren't feminists have no self respect. When self-respect is often the very basis for why they don't identify as feminists. They don't want to be seen as weak, needy, infantilised victims that need quotas and special treatment to get by in the World. The type of woman who doesn't need to try and convince the World that she's a strong and independent woman by screeching it from the rooftops every five minutes, she just is and people can see it from how she goes about her business.

You were very kind to me when I needed help in the haven. You're the last person I wish to fight with. And I'm not going to flat out say you're wrong. But I still think I called this one right.

It's a drive by post. It doesn't offer any reason why she has a grudge against anyone, only that she does. It's not directed at any one individual. So the conclusion I draw is she's a feminist taking offence to a thread asking would you date a feminist. And feminists often put any woman who won't identify as one in the category of having no self respect. Pigeonhole them under "internalised mysoginy." They couldn't possibly have a mind of their own, they must have been brainwashed to not identify as feminists or have no education on what a feminist is. Otherwise they have no self-respect.

Thus the leap from feminist to woman with any self respect. Because if a feminist wouldn't date you, then obviously a woman with any self-respect wouldn't date you either. I take issue with that.

A woman who doesn't identify as a feminist isn't going to care if you won't date a feminist. And a person who won't date a feminist is not going to care if feminists would date them.

she wouldn't keep getting money if people didn't like her videos. So what if she makes a good living off of it? She's delivering a product that people like, even if the sale is via a non-traditional format.

She hasn't produced the tropes videos she promised. She outlined clearly the subjects she was going to cover. She has done a fraction of them and it is years overdue.

Her organisation has charity status. It is not a small amount of money. The list is not long. Others have produced high quality well researched videos at a much larger rate for less money.

I have no interest in gaming so am not an authority on it, but it is clear she hasn't delivered what she said she would.

Some have suggested that her research hasn't played out to her satisfaction for every trope she had listed, which is why she has appeared to abandoned that particular project. She has asked for more money for other things, but it is not clear what has happened to the rest. Her fundraising seems to cost a lot of money.I think she gets paid for appearances too which isn't a problem on it own.

I say this in the light of groups not doing enough to help with genuine issues. I wonder what value she brings through her work. I also consider defending basic freedoms an important activity for any group, and it doesn't have to be expensive if enough do it.

You mentioned free speech. Check out her speach to the UN, to see if you agree with her position. Her line is dependent on if someone feels offended about something someone said.

Of course people can spend on what they want.

drake, you may have seen other folks do that, but the post we're discussing implies that there are lots of women with self-respect who aren't feminists. it was a pointed post, and likely not kind, given that it was posted in an autism forum, but your reaction to it seems more to do with oversensitivity than with what was actually said.

You could change 'MRA' in that post to 'Feminist', and then you'd see what MRA's tend to think of Feminist's, and vice-versa when changing it back to MRA.

Scouring one single forum for negative posts to indicate MRA's must be only about 'women bashing', is the exact same as selectively grabbing extremist/Feminazi posts on a Feminist's forum and using it as an indicator Feminist's are only about male-bashing.

It's inherent hypocrisy.

There's a reason both ideologies tend to hate the other - they both believe the other is only about hating the opposite sex and nothing else.

I've been on both many Feminist and MRA forums and seen many speeches or writings by members of both and the parallel's between the two are amazing. They can both also tend to be equally riddled with bias and stereotyping.

Can we really call the Men's Rights Movement an ideology? I'm leaning (heavily) towards "no". Though it would be wrong to assume there are not people for whom the advocacy of men's rights is their ideological lodestar, such people would be a clear minority within the MRM.

I disagree with your assessment that both sides "hate" each other. The common complaint from men's rights advocates can be broadly boiled down to "stop ignoring our problems, or at least get out of the way when we're trying to discuss them". It would be generous of me to suggest that the reverse position is at all similar.

My observation is that those MRAs I encounter are most likely to complain about feminists, whereas the feminists I encounter are more likely to complain about men. I think that's an important distinction.

Of course, there are large numbers within both camps whose sole focus appears to be flinging mud at each other. I suggest that the practical thing to do is to liberally ignore anyone who brings nothing to the discussion beyond excrement sprinkling.

The tie-breaker for me is the answer to the following question:

Which of the two identities - MRA or feminist - is more likely to be ascribed to someone in order to insult, belittle and silence them?

I have never been accused of being a feminist - though I have occasionally had feminists suggest I should accept the label if I aspire to pursue egalitarian principles. I have, however, frequently been labelled an MRA as a derogatory slight (including on this very board), as if advocating for the rights of that specific half of the population is something to be frowned upon.

I think at that time there was such an imbalance of power that you had to recognize the need to at least get some balance of power to women, some recognition that women should have choices and opportunities outside of the home, and in the home itself. Today we recognize that true feminism is the true equality of both sexes, without it being limited or restricted. And we actually have more young men and young women growing up today that have been raised in more feminist households, where men and women do a share of work in the house. They both have opportunities for education and for job opportunities. Jobs are not labeled for men and for women. :D

Human civilisation is still a work in progress, yep.

True feminism? Until they elect a pope and start excommunicating the heretics, I don't accept the existence of such a thing.

What does feminism have to do with sharing a workload in the home? Such things are usually decided on circumstantially. I'm at home more so I do most of the housework whereas the inverse used to be true. Most of my childhood peers were given 'chores' to do around the home, regardless of gender. To my knowledge, none of them were raised in a "feminist household".

So it seems. Although I am a little concerned by the decreasing numbers of young men in higher education.

-the circumstances where men end up doing housework are ones where women are out of the home...are you truly that naive to see where you've come from?
-your personal experience is still not normal for people who I deem as uneducated, I hear and know many, many complaints about men not doing chores or expecting the woman to do the chores in addition to also her job because that's just her job.
-the chores I were given growing up were chores of cleaning the house while my brother did yard work. There was always a difference of chores.

Where's the info about decreasing numbers of young men in higher education? Like how was it measured, relatively, by overall enrollment, some other way?
