I tend to just feel bad for women in heels rather than think of the sex appeal they apparently offer. One woman I worked with had a saying about heels she told me she took to heart: "If you're going to torture yourself, do it at the gym"

a lot of men don't care about the shoes women wear, or even actively dislike heels. they do tend to be progressive-thinking men.

How does that make them progressive thinking? Heels of course aren't the only kind of shoes that make women look good. I think those ballet slippers are pretty cute too.

aghogday, my point is that the suppsed psychological benefit is not happening because of wearing the heels. it is happening because of how the person thinks they are being perceived by OTHERS when they have them on. that isn't really a benefit if it depends on other people.

Exactly! Clothing communicates something to the person wearing it as well as to other people who see them wearing it. So if heels make certain women feel like they're sexy than more power to em.

ballet flats are also extremely impractical as woman can't run in them, they offer no support for the foot, and they are not good in most kinds of weather. in my personal experience, the progressive people i knew tended to buck social norms, questioned gender roles, and were more interested in leading practical lifestyles than following current clothing fashions

I don't particularly like high heels, but I do like long legs. It seems to me that women who wear the former are trying to achieve or enhance the latter, and I'm not quite sure how I feel about that. It's akin to silicone-enhanced breasts and collagen-injected lips, imho. I guess the male equivalent would be stuffing a sock down one's pants :)

I find it hard to believe that a woman can't run wearing ballet flats. Then again, if it's pouring rain or snowing they obviously aren't the ideal shoe for such weather.

I've seen women try to run in ballet flats. the shoes don't stay on very well becaus they are unstructured and sit low on the foot. they also have almost no grip. it kinda looks like someone trying to run in slippers lol

I think she looks hawt. So ArrantPariah, are you just trying to sound enlightened? Or maybe you just don't find women sexy......

Also, that woman is wearing shorts that aren't tight fitting so it's harder to notice the movement of her ass. If she were wearing a stretch mini skirt/dress you'd really notice it.

I agree that the woman is a hottie. Maybe she would look better walking in a flat sole.

I looked for videos of women in high heels and hot pants. All that I could find were strip-pole dancers. Nothing that would contribute to the present discussion.

Well hyperlexian, if a woman is going to go running then she should probably wear running shoes.

Ballet flats are sort of dressy looking casual shoes for everyday wear. AFAIK they're certainly meant to be used for athletics. Speaking of fashion trends, I remember back in the 1990s when birkenstocks and platform boots were in fashion. Try running in birkenstocks! They will fall right off your feet. It cracks me up how people who are really into being "progressive" dress in clothes that are intentionally ugly which was a big part of the grunge movement. I saw a few brave chicks back then who did wear heels even though they were totally out. It isn't what's "in", it's what looks good. I've always liked women who dress in costumes on an everyday basis.

Okay. I am going to have to concede the point.

@AspieRogue
I dunno. Her hips aren't big enough for me. I don't find women more sexy in heels. That could be partly because I associate them with pain (and not good pain).

You don't worry that they spend too much time on just looking good?

I worry that I don't spend enough time on my looks around such people.

You might say that you can't spend too much time on looking good. Well, you can. There's more to life. At least that's what I tell myself. Seriously, if someone never wakes up one morning and thinks, 'I cba today', then I'm not sure if I come from the same species as them.

AspieRogue, it isn't progressive to wear trendy footwear or clothing. regardless of whether it is ugly or not. you must know that people have reasons to run besides planned athletics lol. i saw a girl run 3 steps to avoid getting hit in an intersection and she left behind a ballet flat.

for me, i wear shoes that allow me to do a wide range of activities without needing to fuss around changing footwear. my ankle boots work for formal wear, light snow, rain, hiking, urban exploration, whatever. sexy is not part of the equation at all.

Shall we say to each her own?

And puddingmouse: I agree with you that her hips were too narrow for my tastes as well.

I just have a range of shoes, none of them with big, or thin heels. 80% of the time, I wear the same Clarks extra-comfy flats because I'm on my feet A a lot. When one pair wear out, I just buy another pair that are exactly the same. I have athletic shoes that are more comfortable, but I can't wear them at work. My feet still hurt after being on them for over 8 hours (I have unfortunate foot structure). The shoes I have for formal, non-work activities are boots or Mary Jane type shoes with fat, short heels. My heels need to be like me in that sense.

I have a pair of high heel patent-leather ankle boots that I never wear, but they don't hurt because the heel is obese as well as tall.
