Not quite - they work because anything that has a measurable effect on the material world can be measured, and anything that doesn't has no affect on our lives and so can safely be ignored.

you are not correct. If you roll a fair 6-sided die 12 times, the sequence
1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1 is extremely unlikely, but it is not even a tiny bit less likely than
1-4-5-2-1-3-6-4-4-1-2-5. Both sequences are equally mathematically unlikely. Both can are equally likely to come up randomly.{edit: both sequences are extremely mathematically unlikely: 6^12. If you want to take it further, just add a few rolls of the die.{/edit}

Again: if the universe were elsewhise, we wouldn't be here to wonder over it. If any of your ancestors had come from a different sperm out of the millions in a single ejaculate, you wouldn't be here. Someone else would be. The odds of your existence are infinitely, vanishingly, small. That doesn't mean that the entire universe was organized just to put you here.

So what, the Universe works in a way which allows for life, and this Earth is capable of supporting life. What you lot seem to be forgetting is in the case of the Earth, whilst the improbability factor that we have such a planet to live on is very high, the numbers allow for it and suggest many many more such planets. As for the universe, once again you are making the unjustified assumption that this is the only universe, same as your forebears did in regard to this planet and solar system. Remove this constraint and you once again have an almost infinitely improbable occurrence with an almost infinite number of chances to make it happen. When you allow for multiple universes this universe is certainly remarkable but it is far from implausible. Read Lawrence Krauss "A Universe from nothing" or Hawking "The Grand Design". Retreating back to "God did it" Is not only fundamentally flawed, it is intellectually lazy.

How does the existence of other planets prove the non-existence of god and which god specifically do they disprove? Does it disprove some gods and not others? Doesn't this 'evidence' point just as 'strongly' to polytheistic creation?

Only because you are so short sighted that you cannot see the possibility of other universes. Your position begs the question what is more probable an creator who is outside time and space and who has always existed or multiple universes. We have no evidence for any form of god but we do have evidence for universes., well at least one and if there is one why should there not be many

Ripped I see you have deleted your strawman filled and rather self contradictory reply. In it you accused me of insulting you by saying you were being short sighted, I stand by this statement and would add that it is an observation not meant to insult. The maxim in science is follow the evidence no matter where it takes you, and where there are several proposals take the most parsimonious one.
Yes the close tolerances which allow this universe to support life are extraordinary, but this does not mean we should invoke god as a creator to explain the situation. For starters we have NO evidence for god, in fact if you look to history we have the opposite ie we have a history that is replete with gods and magic figures who were used to explain what are now fully understood natural occurrences. Secondly God is hardly parsimonious, the insertion of God into the equation throws up all kinds of complications. On the other hand we do have a universe, so we know that universes are a reality, it therefore it is quite reasonable to suggest there are multiple universes, or even that this one continuously expands and contracts, ie to every big bang there is a big crunch.
The point is we do not know, but we have reasonable ideas which explain things without the need for a creator. To say that this is all a matter of belief ie Creator vs Natural events is fallacious. One has zero evidence which puts its probability far lower than a naturalistic one.
To put AspE' quote another way some hypothesis have a much greater probability of being correct than others.

there are extremists on both end of the line, just as there are theists that will do anything to try to prove that god does indeed exists, there are atheists that will do the reverse.
the only objective truth is that gods existence cannot be proven, nor disproven, unless he himself steps onto earth and reveals himself (and even then i personally would doubt him).
actually disproving him is by definition impossible, since you cannot prove that something does not exist or is impossible to happen.
i myself am an agnostic, i do not believe that a god exists, but not atheistic, i do not believe that there is no god, i just admit willingly that i do not know.
i do, however, believe that the god of the christian bible is not real, since there are too much contradictions in his extended holy books, and there is too much overlap with the other major religions to have one of them being the absolute truth in exclusion of the others.
so, if you ask me if there is a 'higher power', a 'something out there', i'd say: possibly, i'm not arguing that there isn't.
if you ask me about the christian god (or any other god, including allah or jaweh/jehowa), i'd say: likely not due to the others' claims.

You are an agnostic atheist actually. I don't believe there is a god either (atheism), but I don't know for sure there isn't one of some definition (agnostic). I believe some Gods can be disproved however, since there are attributes described about him that can be shown to be false beyond a reasonable doubt. It is possible to prove that some things don't exist.
