"It's Time For Guillotines" was a reference to the YouTube link I had posted earlier. I've embedded the clip below (audio only). It's actually absurdly hilarious (and obviously meant as comedy), being sung in the style of We Are The World but calling for a bloody French Revolution-style uprising in modern America.
As for me - after realizing that if fifteen years of screaming at and beating me and threatening me with homelessness wouldn't fix me, nothing they could do ever would, my parents maneuvered to voluntarily give me over to the state, thus maintaining a claim on me while giving up custody at the same time, precluding any hope of being adopted into a "happy family" - not that there's much hope for teens waiting to be adopted, but there's some. Hope was not something I was ever permitted to have.
I want to stress that this was through family courts and I was not charged with any crime.
The state bounced me around a lot before auctioning me off to an out-of-state (attractive to case workers because it reduces their responsibility) for-profit "Residential Treatment Facility." Here I was drugged and subjected to conditioning and "therapies" for disorders I did not have (nobody would even suggest an ASD as a possibility until several years later). Here I was deprived of education as well as information (for example 9/11 happened while I was here; while I learned of the events listening to a contraband radio, staff did not inform us until several hours later - the irony is that while I was supposedly unable to control my emotions, I controlled them well enough that nobody knew I knew what happened, or ever found my radio). Here I was physically and sexually assaulted. Here I was repeatedly set up for failure, so they could keep me longer and make more money; here I was regarded as a chattel. Here I labored for the enrichment of the facility's owners.
Here I found out that not even turning 18 would get me free, as they claimed they couldn't let me leave if I had nowhere to go. To get out I had to force their hand - I quickly changed from their model student to their worst problem. I carefully avoided committing any actual crime while nonetheless making it quite clear that I had no more f*cks to give and would tear their throats out if they looked at me the wrong way. My case worker was summoned, I was returned to my home state and taken to the emergency room for a psychiatric evaluation, where it was determined that I was not a threat to myself or others and I was referred to therapy for PTSD.
The state bounced me from shelter to shelter until they found a group home for young adults like myself. I waited months for that therapy, and when I finally got it, it was much too little far too late.
I pulled myself out of that hell by regarding anyone whose job was to "help" me as a threat, by working (always off-the-books so my social worker couldn't take 2/3 for a savings account that they don't have to give me control of if they decide it's "not in my interest," and paying self-employment taxes on my often sub-minimum wages so the IRS couldn't get me) my ass off, and by playing on the sympathies of marks who would give me something for nothing because I have a sad story.
In my more successful later years I have been that sympathetic mark. The fact that I choose to do so, knowing full well that I'm a mark some way or another but doing so anyway, isn't because I feel any obligation. It's because I don't feel threatened.

I would not wish what happened to you on anyone.
But on a lighter note, the song was indeed hilarious.

OP, maybe this ? I don't know if it's already mentionned, I find the quoting-sessions a bit confusing.

And you just happen to be one of the ones being kept as opposed to being a keeper, hence you love of anything progressive and your generosity with the money and freedom of others.....
And how do you come to that conclusion?
Are you earning a living? If not and you are on relief (by any name) then you are being kept. Therefore it behoves you to support anything thats sustains your being kept.
I bet I've spent more including in volunteer hours. I keep mine in-country, though.
Nothing when done of one's own accord. Legislating morality (what you condone when it suits you) is a different matter. Just to put it in perspective for you, the bans on (or not recognizing) same sex marriage was/is legislated morality.
Choosing to support one form of legislated morality over another is just keeping with one's moral compass.
Being deliberately obtuse again. Does it ever get old?
The point being that I give more than I take.
You?
Yep, America first.
So, now you know my secret. Whaddya think of that!?!?
If this is the southern mud hole you're referring to I dont see many bugs....

If this is the southern mud hole you're referring to I dont see many bugs....

My late father-in-law, being an army brat as a kid, had moved from the Northwest with his family to Georgia, and he described the whole rotten experience as being surrounded by racist white trash, and living in heat, and mud, with bugs everywhere. He thought it would have been better to let the south go in the Civil War, as the only decent thing there were the black people, who he had called the nicest, kindest people he had ever met. And I had once dated a girl from Mississippi who had told me how there had been such a plague of cockroaches that whenever she'd walk across the lawn, she would hear the constant crunch-crunch-crunch of the bugs underfoot. She had said that since moving to the Pacific Northwest, she had seen far more spiders than she had ever seen down south - probably because the cockroaches ate them. So in other words, I'm taking people who I personally knew, and who I knew were honest, at their word.
As far as getting out more - what could you possibly mean?

Sounds like a whiner. Most military brats just learn to adapt. The south spans from West Virginia's northern panhandle, some of which is north of Pittsburgh, to Key West, and from North Carolina's outer banks to the Rio Grande. In other words a lot of diversity there. The wintery scene in the picture is of the mountains in western N. Carolina.
How much did you have to pay her to "date" you?

Meaning anyone who could write about the details of carrying and birthing a vampire pup needs some hobbies outside the home. Better yet, get a jo............nah, I'd better not say it. Might come of as trolling and we wouldn't want that.

Most of my father-in-law's white Georgia neighbors were KKK - and that was in the military. Once, as a child he had called a black man "sir," for which a cracker slapped him for it. The first day on the school bus with his brother, another bus taking black kids to a segregated school pulled up alongside at a red light, when all the little crackers in a wave crashed up to the window facing the other bus, spewing every hateful word imaginable. He was beaten up every day, till he eventually acquired a southern accent. Try adapting to that.
Incidentally, when he and his brother had gotten lost, and they had ended up in a black neighborhood, they had at first been apprehensive, as they had been told how nasty blacks were supposed to be. But to their surprise, the people there made sure they got home safely. Quite the contrast in behavior.
Letting the south secede was my father-in-law's idea, as that way, we'd be rid of them. I, on the other hand, would have preferred that the Radical Republicans had gotten their way, in that the south would have reverted to territories of the United States, and not able to return to the union as states. More, I would have done what Charlemagne had done in Saxony: deport part of the southern population to other parts of the country, and replace them with northern colonists, that way assuring role models for the acculturation of the south in the ways of the Yankees.
As far as the girl from Mississippi is concerned - as a matter of fact, I had been working as a spot welder in a sheet metal shop at the time. A mutual friend had set us up - no money on my part involved. Things never went beyond the friendship stage, as she was a Mormon, and had something of a religious hangup about my Lutheranism. Last I heard, she had been trying to find a Mormon mate online. But that's fine, as I met my wife a few years later.
And by the way, if you are so obsessed with how I survive, the answer is: my wife is bringing in money, while she puts up with me writing. As a matter of fact, she believed in my literary endeavors even when I didn't. So yeah, I suppose you would call me a slacker and lay about for being an artistic free spirit, but I could care less. But the fact is, I AM NOT ON THE DOLE! I don't speak of such matters, because personal finances are just that - personal. You on the other hand obviously make moral judgments about people in need, and require assistance. Not very moral on your part, if you ask me.
And by the way, my vampire spiel isn't a matter of me having too much time on my hands, or me needing to find a job - making stuff up like that is what I f*cking do!

It was probably a joke, but a fun science fact is cockroaches are almost completely dependent on humans for survival in America because they aren't native species. They would have a difficult time living in the cooler North.
1.) If the South was just let go, New York City and New Jersey would probably have joined the Confederacy due to how dependent they were on Southern cotton (The outlets of the Mississippi would also have been under Confederate control), so the Civil War was inevitable to preserve the Union. The Draft Riots in NYC that happened during the time offer strong proof to this.
2.) "Deporting" the Southern population essentially happened after Reconstruction, which can be seen in the history of Detroit and other cities. I don't know how making them territories would have helped matters in the long run.
@Raptor:
So if I don't want to share my herd immunity with deadbeats, what should I do? Try to send them near immigrants in the South, since that whole event with the migrant children might have actually increased immunity (Guatemala had higher vaccination rates than the US in certain areas at the time). You might get some neighbors.
Mississippi also has the highest rate of vaccination because they don't allow for non-medical exemptions (sometimes, I think they look at the rest of the country and do the opposite just because, but I kid). I don't think Mississippi is a "blue state."

I've actually heard that about cockroaches probably not surviving long after humans.
As for the stuff I wrote about the south: for the most part, I'm just trying to get raptor's goat, which he's well aware of. Although my late father-in-law - who in fact would have shared much in common with Raptor, in that he was a gun nut, and a political and social conservative - did in fact give white southerners a very poor review, after having such a traumatic childhood among them.

When exactly was this and where?
Do any of these displaced people, north or south, have a choice? No, I suppose not. There's no greater disregard for human rights than a wild eyed liberal on a crusade.....
If every time I mention people in general being on the dole and/or slackers (this is all after I said that I support the existence of a social safety net) you sound off and take offense then you've just identified yourself as a slacker on the dole. Really, it's not rocket science.
Oooh, I just got a spike on my butthurt detector!

In answer to your query - my father-in-law had lived in Georgia during the latter days of segregation. And yes, I agree the south is for the most part a different place today than it was back then. But as I had l all ready stated to someone else, I'm trying to get your goat, and apparently succeeding. Talk about butthurt.
And when have I ever said I receive public assistance? I only said you might call me a slacker for working as a writer without making any money yet. And incidentally, there isn't a damn thing wrong with being on public assistance. The reason why I take offense to when you bring the subject up is because when you do, it's always in a negative context.
And no, I'm hardly butthurt when I brag about being lucky enough to be involved in the literary arts. Do you get to follow your dreams? Or do you just languish, Al Bundy-like, waiting for the sweet embrace of death to save you from the drudgery of life?

That answers part of it. Georgia is a state, not a city and one part of the state is not the same as all parts. The mountainous north Georgia are said not to have been nearly as turbulent as south Georgia back in the segregation era. I don’t know how many army bases there were back them so I’ll have to assume that he was at one of the ones that still exist which would be Ft. Benning, Ft. Steward, Ft. Gordon and a few smaller ones which are mostly all in south or central Georgia. Yes, there were race issues back then to put it mildly.
I've known several elderly blacks that lived in various parts of the segregated south. The thing that stands out in contrast between them and whitebread liberals is that they don't b***h about it. They lived it, didn't like it, resented it, but what's past is past and I think it's safe to say that we will never see segregation again in this country.
You forget that I’m not a southerner and have little to no vested interest. My part of the south has always been city and suburbs which may has well have been in southern California if we’re speaking culturally. I just find it amusing that the tolerant, diverse, and worldly minded left seems not to be so tolerant, diverse, and worldly when it doesn’t suit them…..
BTW, when you admit that you are trying to get someone’s goat you are, by definition, admitting to trolling.
Read again what I said.
If being, in effect, a housewife writing stuff about vampires that’s not being published is fulfilling a dream then it doesn’t take much to satisfy you. I do some unpublished writing too, but it’s at the bottom of the heap of anything I do. Currently, I work with dogs at the humane society, mess with guns and stuff, and photography to name the bulk of it.

I actually don't write about vampires -that was just a metaphor of the allegedly undeserving poor sucking the life out of the oh so holy and moral conservatives. Try werewolves, drug induced cannibalism, the vindictive dead, as well as Lovecraftian horror as the subjects I write about. My writing is part of living a fulfilling life, but my wife and daughter, as well as drinking too much beer also contributes to my happy state of mind.
And call me a house husband - my wife is the only person worthy enough to bear the title of house wife in our relationship. ![]()

So only conservatives pay taxes? And what about those poor southern whites who are on public assistance, but judging by their politics (think the rich are over taxed, think Obama was born in Kenya, think interracial marriage should be re-illegalized, etc), are they too, not conservatives?
As you may recall, I had to part with my beloved Valiant. I now own a Mustang.
And trashiness is in the eye of the beholder. Did literary giants like Poe and Lovecraft write trash because they specialized in horror? Don't denigrate my literary genre, and I won't denigrate your guns.
As for my not answering some of your points - you can only knock me down a notch or two in your dreams. As for my reasons why I did not, I hearken back to what one of my college professors had once told a fellow student: "It's not that I don't respect your opinion; I just don't have time for it."

On average, conservatives are in a higher tax bracket and therefor pay more taxes. How do I know this? Simple; why would anyone with a good income need to be a liberal when they don’t need welfare?
Horror has never horrified me making it ineffective on me (i.e. boring).
The blind progressive protectionist in you can’t help but denigrate my guns but the more you denigrate them the more I love them.
How many posts do you think I can go back and find where you've indicted that I've winged you?
Chew on that for a while.....
