Well if you have a negative opinion about someone due to their skin color/ethnicity...that is considered racist, which makes sense. Like if you have a negative opinion of certain people that happen to be a different ethnicity I don't really see the problem there...but if you decide that negative opinion should apply to anyone else that shares the same race or ethnicity with that person than it's problematic.

Also why isn't crime just referred to as crime...why don't they call crimes white people commit against other white people white on white crime? Also racism and racial profiling amoung law enforcement is not 'microscopic' at all...and it doesn't even just stop there people with mental disorders/conditions and homeless people also are unfairly profiled by police.

That said I don't have any 'white guilt' but yet I still think racism is an issue.

The thing that is shocking about black-on-black crime is not that it occurs between black people, but the rate at which it occurs. A hugely disproportionate amount of crime is being committed by black people, specifically young black men. This is why the leading cause of death for young black men is homicide.

I'd like to see some actual statistics on that...though even then I still don't think that means it's appropriate to stereotype black people in general as 'criminals' for instance. I imagine if that is the case there are various factors that contribute but I do not think one of those factors is they're black. If there really is disproportionate crime that needs be addressed and solved...not used as a reason to justify racist police profiling which solves nothing.

https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/20 ... s/table-43

Going down the list, almost every single category of crime is committed disproportionately by black people. Blacks commit more homicides and robberies than whites, even though their population is only 13% of the nation. And that's just the national average; if you look at the same stats in inner cities, the numbers get even crazier.

That's an extremely high rate of crime, one that does not come close to being fully explained by the typical "blame whites" response that many people seem to have.

The people losing their lives here are also black, and that number is WAY higher than the number being killed by police (this number would also go down substantially if black-on-black crime decreased to a somewhat normal level).

The reasons for the crime rates are primarily cultural, and are related to the disintegration of black families. Without a father around to be a provider and a positive influence in their life, and without supportive families and stable home life, many young black men and women develop behavioral problems at a young age, do poorly in school, and end up turning to drugs, crime and joining gangs.

Why or how it has gotten to this point is a question I'm honestly not fully comfortable answering at this point, simply because I'm still learning about it myself. It's so rare that anyone can really go into depth about such things, because the way things are now, you can't even get past mentioning the stats without being called a racist.

Go look at the rate of black-on-black crime and you will understand why I'm bringing it up. Also, never said racism was imaginary.

Holmes, which crime was it again? Oh, is it hypocrisy? (And, seriously, neither L nor Sherlock had such blinkers...)

Extremely valid points: a white cannibal killer survives arrest, but an unarmed black man in a traffic stop gets shot.

 he survived arrest because he didn't resist arrest, unlike a large number of "victims of police racism".

Dang, you got me. White people commit crimes too. Not nearly as many as black people, not by a long shot, but hey, who needs facts when you've got insults and pretty pie charts?

They're actually fairly similar stats if you bother to look, but since you don't like charts I won't embed another one... x on x crime is such a straw man argument, at any rate.

They're actually not at all similar; blacks commit an insanely disproportionate amount of crime compared to EVERY other race, not just whites. But don't let those facts stop you.

The chart is not about the percent of total crime that whites commit compared to other races, it is showing how much of crime that is committed by whites is against other white people, compared to the crime committed by whites against other races.

Let me close that intellectual loop for you. What created an insular culture featuring police mistrust, fathers in prison, and lack of employment opportunities? Could it have anything to do with lack of African-Americans on the police force until relatively recently, routine police abuses, unfair prosecutions, lack of adequate legal representation, the prisoner labor for profit system, and discrimination in hiring, business loans, and real estate? Maybe that's a good place to start in your research. You can follow it up with Nixon's war against black power using all the legal means of the US government as well many illegal ones (heroin). Then maybe look into the CIA's involvement in the cocaine trade and subsequent hard line stance on crack while white cocaine users got every advantage in the legal system. It might be worth noting that our schools are funded by property taxes.

I just wish racism would go the way of the human appendix---something vestigial and worthy of being taken out.

You're suggesting I look up your justification for sweeping claims regarding cops?

Sweet dreams.

I told you that you have that choice not to.

I know. Most crimes are intraracial. I never disagreed with that, so I don't know why this is being continually brought up, other than because people are failing to see the point I'm making.

As I said in my response to Sweetleaf, what's so shocking about black crime is not that the majority of the victims are also black. What's shocking is the rate at which they are killing/getting killed. That is the number I'm talking about when I'm saying it's insanely higher, I'm talking about the raw numbers of violent crimes (and crime in general) coming from the black community, and not only towards other blacks.

No, there is no way that systemic racism explains the crime rate. I have been trying to hammer home just how high it is. I use the description "insanely higher", because it truly is insanity to look at this and believe it all stems from oppression. Even when you control for things you've mentioned, the black crime rate still comes out way higher than every other race.

If you were correct about this, we would expect to see a decrease in crime after the civil rights movement. Instead we see a spike in crime. So no, it is not white racism causing black people to kill each other.

I think I'll stick to being objective while researching the issue, rather than starting off with the assumption that racism is the cause of all the bad things going on in the black community. That seems kind of counterproductive to the whole idea of objective research. If I find out you're right, then I'll eat my words, but without any evidence what you're saying is pure conspiracy theory.

No.

Please allow me to quote myself. I'm a man of low wealth and poor taste:

The interesting part is of course Figure 19, which - at first glance - paints an almost static picture of race and crime in the US. However, this is only because it displays the relative offending/victimization rates, and not - unlike Figure 17 and 18 - the actual rates.

You do know when the Civil Rights Movement took place, right? I'll give you a hint: it wasn't in 1980. I said crime spiked after the Civil Rights Movement, as in after the 60s when it took place. I say that because it did, and it peaked in the 90s, 30 years later. Yet the top of the spike is what you use as a convenient starting point to try and disprove what I said.

That's completely wrong and totally misleading, but I'm going to assume it's an honest mistake. I'll restate what I said: the very spike I'm referring to was the crime rate in the 80s and 90s, which is where your graphs start. I did not say it was currently increasing. Don't misrepresent my argument.

Besides, like I said in another post, even if the black crime rate had been steadily decreasing since then, it still doesn't explain why it is so insanely high compared to EVERY OTHER RACE, not just whites. Meaning even compared to other "oppressed" minorities, blacks still commit way more crime than them. Hispanics are up there as well, but even they barely approach blacks in crime rates. And the rates for every other race are microscopic compared to these two.

How do you explain all that?

one should not get convoluted in established research and have "smart arse wars" with the research. people say "citation needed" all the time and i think (on behalf of the recipients of that request) , "well the citation is the authority of my perception of my observation".

so, in my observation, black people are always in some way aware of their skin color. whether it be subconscious or not, it is something that seems to bug them on a deep level.

white people never give a thought about the fact that they are white because it seems to be the correct way to be in their senses.

so there is always an idea inside a black person when they talk to a white person, that the white person feels superior to them, and even though they may be polite and enjoy each other's company, there is still, deep down, a feeling of perceived inferiority in a black person.

how did it all start? why did the whites dominate the world and coral the blacks like helpless animals into slavery?
there were more blacks than whites. so how did whites so easily take over?

that is a question that deeply offends black people because it implies superior intelligence on the part of the whites.

then there is the question of the perception of cleanliness.

everyone likes to be clean, and white is associated with clean and black is associated with dirty in most people's minds.

so black people seem to think that white people may see them as dirty and inferior in many instances, even when the white person is not even considering it.

it is a subconscious feeling that they should not be blamed for not being white (indicating they would mostly prefer to be white), and they justify crime in their minds as being a fit response to the "inferiority" they feel blameless for.

we all know that no one has a say in who they are born as.
so we all know that no one is to be awarded or deprived simply due to their birth status.

black people feel less conscience about committing crimes because they justify it as a reaction to their unjust suppression.
any way no citation for what i have thought is available so just whatever.
