Nobody interested in the Russia-Ukraine conflict?
^Ukraine destroyed what was once the third largest nuclear arsenal in the world for this.
What an irony.
In particular, this aggression seems to be precisely because of the conflict between the countries that once pledged to protect Ukraine.
Only force can defend peace.
And the promise is so fragile.

Agreed.
Psychopaths are drawn to weakness.

In Fog of Dementia, Grandmother Learns Again and Again That Her Country Is at War

"
Every morning, Olga Boichak’s grandmother wakes up at her home in western Ukraine, turns on the television and discovers anew that her country is at war.
Panicked and flashing back to childhood memories of bombings during World War II, she starts packing to evacuate, her granddaughter said. Her husband of six decades hides the house keys and reassures her that everything will be all right, and that their home is the safest place for them.
Before long, the war, the fear and the reassurance will dissipate into the fog of dementia — as have all new memories in recent years. Until the next morning, or the next air raid siren, when the reality of the invasion that has subsumed Ukraine for more than 50 days will find her once more.
“She’s going through the daily trauma of rediscovering that war has begun, and keeps trying to evacuate,” said Boichak, who is based in Sydney and speaks to her grandparents and her aunt, a health care worker who looks after them, weekly over video chat.
She declined to give her grandparents’ names or their exact location in relatively safe western Ukraine out of concern for their safety.
“It’s really heartbreaking,” she said.

Loves velcro,
There are discussions that "the Azovstal iron and steel works" are actually Soviet-era military fortresses. And claims it has six floors of underground structures, as well as a large amount of food storage.
I personally haven't found any relevant information yet.

Might be true, might not be true, and it would not be astonishing if did turn out to be true.

There are underground tunnels and Soviet era bunkers, but probably in bad shape. I don't know how about food storage - after several weeks of encirclement, it may be empty.
Russians should be in possession of plans of the bunkers, as they're soviet-era. I can't rule out any sinister plans on their side... Chemical or bio weapon could "do the job" in such a fortess if you knew all the exits and entrances... provided no one leaves alive to tell the world...
Damn, my ability to think like a psychopath scares me.

Probably realize that if they engage in a fight they may lose badly.. but if they just wait, the Ukrainians may run out of food and water etc before they do and then be unable to put up much of a fight. May be as simple as that.
Hopefully there’s air backup on the way before that can happen.. that’d be dope.

Possibly off topic.
Two months ago, there were few people who dared to publicly support Russia on the Chinese Internet. This has nothing to do with censorship, just because it would be attacked by others.
A month ago, pro-Russians on the Chinese Internet would call pro-Ukrainians "Taiwanese spies", and pro-Ukraines would call pro-Russians "yellow-skinned Russians".
(And it seems that some people sincerely believe that people who disagree with them are Taiwanese spies, and the evidence is that public opinion on the Chinese Internet was different after the last power outage in Taiwan)
Now speaking under related questions will display the country/region of the user's IP.
That accusation has finally stopped. They finally began to seriously discuss military matters.

Calculated according to the troops dispatched at that time. I only quote direct expenditures for "military operations" and do not take into account the loss of Russia's overseas assets and sanctions.
If there is no solution for a long time, the Russian army will spend 108 billion US dollars in Ukraine for a year, personnel, equipment operations, ammunition consumption, etc. After one year, the damage to personnel and armaments, calculated at one-third of the purchase cost, will cost another 17 billion US dollars. A total of $125 billion. 8.4% of its 2021 GDP and 39% of its 2021 fiscal revenue.
This really can't last too long.
A prolonged siege is unrealistic.
May 9 sounds like it will keep the budget within a reasonable range, or Russia will get itself into even more trouble. Especially considering their economy itself is not that good.
