Here in Sweden we always say "Satan!", "Devils!", "Hell!" and stuff like that when something goes wrong.
So when some apologists say that everyone believes in god because they would say "Oh my God!" when their plane crashes or something like that, I can't help but smile...

The two are not wholly unrelated.
So you're basically alluding to the fact that the USA is bad because our government is not antisemitic enough???
Anti-Israel =/= Antisemitic
I hold no grudge against Jews, in fact many Jews have made a lot of contributions, but seriously - the whole Israel idea was a bad idea to begin with, considering that there was already Palestine.
I am perfectly aware of that, thankyou. But Codarac has made PLENTY of antisemitic posts that ascibe to "jewish conspiracy" theories and scapegoating jews unjustifiably. So I have no doubt that the reason why HE happens to not like Israel is because the Israeli's are jewish.
I get stuck off the Internet for 3 days, and someone goes and steals my possible post...
I was going to post this as a poll...why You hate America
1) We have the following list of treaties you haven't signed
2) You're religious. The only difference between you and Iran is the content of your Holy Books
3) You support Israel. Share their friendship; share their fate
4) You're not (insert the name of your Country)
5) Why can't you be more like Scandanavia?
I think what the non-US people don't understand (and probably a good many US citizens), is that we don't separate criticism of the government from criticism of the people. We don't have the idea that 'of course, ze government is corrupt, but vhat can you do?' attitude.
When the government or our policies are questioned or attacked, we see it as a personal attack on us, individually. If you hate the US Government, you hate us personally. The idea that you could (much less would) separate the two doesn't compute for us.
We hardly have a monopoly on stupidity or corruption. I think of us as the worst possible country in the world, with the exception of all the others...
But remember, we've gotten rid of George "Emperor Palpitaine" Bush, and the Republic is in power, with an entire party trying to make us as much like Europe as possible. Things will get better
As for WWII, we were attacked because we were helping the British, and because we cut off exports to Japan (to help Vietnam, of all things...
Admittedly, Russia and China did most of the fighting, but we did help some on both fronts (heck, we even brought the Russians American fighter planes, trucks, and of course...Spam...![]()

At least, concrete reasons, and not emotions.
1) We have the following list of treaties you haven't signed
So why cannot we choose not to sign a treaty?
2) You're religious. The only difference between you and Iran is the content of your Holy Books
Well that is a huge difference. At least with religion you know where we stand, rather than guessing.
3) You support Israel. Share their friendship; share their fate
So, we helped form Israel. What are suppose to do, let dictators bomb the country? Give the Jews to be well treated by the Europeans? We see how they are maltreated by the rest of world.
4) You're not (insert the name of your Country)
We have parts of every country in the USA.
5) Why can't you be more like Scandanavia?
Because then we would be less like Germany and the UK, which are also great countries.
i do not hate the USA. (despite that they bought the sausage roll factory i complained about earlier).
i will try to be serious.
if i was dropped suddenly in the USA, everyone would be "in my face".
they could read nothing from my face and panic would set in and i am sure i would wind up in jail there for simply being unable to be pigeonholed.
the climate of suspicion, and "need to know" in america is too harsh for me to want to be there.
Because then we would be less like Germany and the UK, which are also great countries.
Pardon me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't becoming more "Scandinavian" make you more in a position of being "German" and "British", as opposed to being more "American"?

No, Germany started at least two world wars, more like three, but that is debatable. And the UK has been trying to dominate the world since its inception.
Scandinavia is more like a country that plays dead and hopes nobody wants to take it over because it has no defenses.

I think you would be alright. Individuals are actually nice in the USA. Especially if you go to smaller cities and towns. People are really nice here in Idaho, although not that cultured. Cultured people tend to be snotty and impatient.

Lol, I was more thinking of Germany and UK today, not how they were in the 30's.

I would agree with this statement. Even in New York City, with its reputation of rudeness, I found the people nice and helpful. At times they were a little busy, or perhaps a little disinterested in another tourist, but nobody ever was less than civil.

The western European countries have, regardless all differences, a quite similar system of government and social structures. E.g. You will not find in anyone of this countries a debate about a public health system: It exist, organized in different ways, but that all have the right to access healthcare free or almost free is social consents. You do not have in any of this countries a debate regarding the capital punishment: It abolished via national laws and international treaties since decades. You will have in none of this countries a debate regarding the need of a public transport system nationwide - the need of such a system is consents. etc.
Without this certain amount of uniformity in general ideas and structures, a thing like the EU couldn't work.

I know, I was joking.
But remember, Russia and Eastern Germany were hellbent on taking over the world until the 1980s with the Cold War. That is what it was about, stopping the "domino effect" of communism.
Except for people born after 1985, we though of Eastern Europe and most of Asia as evil communist, it was what we were taught, and for the most part, it was true. We even sided with Bin Laudin and Saddam to fight them.

In this case your are quite wrong: Over the most of the last millennium it hard to speak of "Germans as a whole" at all. The political structure of what is today Germany was over centuries hardly in the position to be aggressive at all. There were internal wars, acts of aggression from outside (Louis XIV, Napoleon), but you can't speak of a German state prior 1866/71. If you really have a look in German history the period between Bismark's unification 1871 and 1945 was in a lot of respects the exception of pattern of German politics and history of the more than 1000 years of German history. Why this happened and why this lead into the catastrophe of 1933/45 is still not fully understood. But the current Federal Republic of Germany with its over complex internal structures and its very careful foreign politics is closer to the main stream of German history than any other German regime since 1848.

Well, the thing is though, European countries are like states in the United States. The major difference between the USA and European States, is that we pride ourselves on independence and self reliance. We believe in personal responsibility. European states believe the government should provide all your needs. Americans believe you should provide your own needs and can do it better than society can.

History disagrees. While there was no "German Nation" as a whole before the 1870s, there was the Holy Roman Empire, which where mostly Germanic, and very controlling and dominating. Germans nearly created a world war in the 1870 to form their nation. Then did again in the early 1900s with WWI, and again in the 1930s and 1940s to start WWII. And half were under the control of the Soviet Union from 1945 to 1989 which had a stated mission to control the world. Therefore, most of the last 1000 years of German history has been about a mission to control the world, and started large wars to do so.
