Obama's Drastic Changes
Honestly, its amazing how many credulous progressives thought Obama would implement drastic, progressive reforms. When I heard his positions were pretty much identical to Hillary Clinton's, that crushed any hope I had in him.
I'll also take this fine opportunity to point out to all those - increasingly out of touch with the political reality - progressives who think Obama's playing "3D Chess": where is his checkmate? People who were actually transformative - like Donald Regan - really pushed through their accomplishments. All victories were not the result of incessant capitulation and triangulation.
I was going to use "Ronald Reagan" until I remembered that he wasn't in charge - he just played the President. Donald egan was one of the top plutocratic advisors who ran the inapproperiately named "Reagan" administration - so I used him.
Obama has continued the war on terror but in a way that has brought the world on his side. Unlike Bush who alienated potential allies.
He has legislated for cars to be a lot more environmentally friendly. Will soon have got through a health care plan that saves the country money in the future, aids struggling families and gives people more opportunity to succeed despite misfortune.
His cash for clunkers program has brought millions of more sustainable cars on the roads and saved jobs for people working in the car industry. Obama's stimulus program has invested more than any sceptic could ever have hoped in renewable energy and has stopped people struggling to pay their mortgates ending up on the streets.
When Obama came into power he inherited a country at the helm of a worldwide recession. He's doing his best and I would say a fine job of keeping society stable and sane.

The cash for clunkers programs brought more money to Toyota than Ford.
The health care debate is in shambles and that's with a super majority that doesn't even need Republicans to legislate. The whole thing is a joke, anyways...it's just a move that will, inevitably, benefit the insurance industry.
He's continuing the practice of rendition and torture...he's just stopped talking about it and started hiring third party vendors to do the dirty work so that our hands are clean.
He continued the war on terrorism and continues to hold the largest embassy in the world in Iraq. He continues the same rhetoric about Iran after a few little blurbs about diplomacy that were nothing more than empty words.

In a concrete sense, what is different between the mid-East policies of Obama and Bush aside from their rhetoric?
It's rather pathetic that a President with a supermajority in the legislature has failed to deliver on his campaign promises. The public option is completely dead, which means at this point health care reform isn't going to actually change much.
Because people aren't still unemployed and wondering how to pay their mortgages?
I'm willing to give it some time before I make a judgment on the Obama administration, but it's quite clear that we have yet to see very tangible results.
@Skafather: Toyota has been building manufacturing plants in Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana. Ford has been outsourcing to China. Which is an "American" company, the one which employs American workers or the one named after an American? My family's Chevy was made in Korea, is it an American car?

Where the shareholders reside. Where the owners reside...the people who see the largest portions of money from the success of the company. Toyota isn't based here so therefore most of the money goes overseas while menial jobs are kept here. That's a loss for the country on a whole.

I'm starting to grow rather impatient with the guy myself. We've still got a massive clusterf*ck in the mideast, the cash for clunkers program had a very negligible effect on improving fuel economy (new cars and trucks qualified with 22 and 18 MPG's respectively), and it looks like healthcare "reform" is going to be nothing more than a winfall for the insurance companies. I was really holding on tight to hope, until the public option was taken off the table. Now I'm not sure what to really make of Obama. Where's the change?

I'm not complaining that Obama has delivered on very little. He's more celebrity than politician, more talk than action. I'm just hoping this makes for some big GOP gains in 2010 and retaking the white house in 2012. Part of Obama's failures comes from not realizing he is less like an elected king than he thinks and cannot as easily legislate by decree as he wished. If he spent more than one term in the senate maybe he would have known that a supermajority means nothing when the other senators have their own private agendas.

Because "more of the same" in large doses again is just what this country needs, right?

When compared to socialism, "the same" is a good thing.

We already have rampant socialism. The problem is that it's done in such a way as to benefit private business. Fascism is the marriage of the corporation and the state, it's really better to be described as corporatism. Mussolini said something along those lines.
Too bad you're too ignorant to realize just how socialist the government is and how every single major GOP player only serves to continue that trend while only cutting the government services that benefit the private citizen so as to allow more money to benefit the multi-national private enterprises.
This leads to a stagnation of both government and economy and our current demise. Hopefully the people are smart enough to take their blows in the right way in the economy and get back to the real world in regards to both government and economics rather than this bubble world that's been created by the neo-cons.

Because Obama's a socialist and wants to abolish private property in favor of the dictatorship of the proletariat, right?
