"The worst thing is to play the 'we are all human' game. I am not human. I am a monster. It is not . . . that I wear the mask of a theoretician and underneath I am a warm human being. I am a monster who plays, pretends he is human." - Slavoj Zizek

''I am going to come out and attack him'' Aussie world boxing champion Jeff Fenech when asked on his plan for the fight. Confirmed for me the Aussie love of stating the bloody obvious and the idiocy of boxing

American baseball player Yogi Berra would agree with Mr. Fenech's plan. "Think! How the hell are you gonna think and hit at the same time?"

Any my favourite quote is by him as well.

"You've got to be very careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there."

Pratchet has some amazing ones.

"Pulling together is the aim of despotism and tyranny. Free men pull in all kinds of directions." (From The Truth)

"I cursed Imo because he gave the birds and animals a way to sense great waves, and didn't give it to smart beings like us. But I realize He did. He made us smart. It was up to us to be good at it!" (From Nation. They made seismographs.)

The main difference between intelligent people and stupid people is that intelligent people do stupid things more cleverly. - Kasi Ylös

The main difference between an intelligent and a stupid person is a matter of perception.

Quote:
Right, kick ass. Well, don't want to sound like a dick or nothin', but, ah... it says on your chart that you're f****d up. Ah, you talk like a fag, and your s**t's all ret*d. What I'd do, is just like... like... you know, like, you know what I mean, like...

i have no favorite quotes by famous thinkers.

on a basic level my favorite lines to people are

"well there you go". i say this when i have decided i do not want to continue a debate.
to them it sounds like i have "seen their light", but to me it is like saying i have thrown the mooring ropes of their ship back to them, and as i watch them drift off away from me i say "well..there you go".

if i am losing an argument and can not justify something then i may say "oh well. it's all relative anyway"

anyway, this is a topic about quotes from major minds, so i will say one quote i think is excellent from einstein which was "god does not play dice with the universe"

i think that is a rebuttal of quantum theories which propose that there can be accidental phenomena with no true causation.

Not only does God play dice, but... he sometimes throws them where they cannot be seen.

I collect quotes, so there's no way I can pick just one. Here are a few of my favorites:

"Rings and other jewels are not gifts, but apologies for gifts. The only gift is a portion of thyself." --Ralph Waldo Emerson

"Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup."

"In India, 'cold weather' is merely a conventional phrase and has come into use through the necessity of having some way to distinguish between weather which will melt a brass door-knob and weather which will only make it mushy." --Mark Twain

"A tautology is something which is tautological."

"When the Monopoly play money starts jerking around the real money you're in trouble" --Temple Grandin

"No animal should ever jump on the dining room furniture unless absolutely certain he can hold his own in conversation." --Fran Lebowitz

"Any philosophy that can be put in a nutshell belongs there." --Sydney J. Harris

"If you sit down at a poker game and don't see a sucker, get up. You're the sucker."

"The magic of myth and legend has come true in our time. One types the correct incantation on a keyboard, and a display screen comes to life, showing things that never were nor could be." --Fred P. Brooks
