This was based on the "Diseases on the Ark" thread that parakeet created, as he quoted an article mentioning microorganisms, such as bacteria and viruses, and well, a point on this came to mind which is the conflict of the mere existence of these creatures in relation with Creationism.

And that is something I haven't heard from Creationists to actually justify, not that I remember, how a creationist can explain microorganisms? and I mean the existence of these creatures, if the process of life is through design and not evolution then why the heck a creationist God would create microorganisms in the first place? (given that creation by design must have a purpose and nothing is evolved and other reasons related to the role of microorganisms in nature) I mean, I know I am a layman, but to me, Evolution seems to explain microorganisms a whole lot better than Creationism.

It doesn't make sense, microorganisms being part of a perfect Eden made by design, and it doesn't make sense microorganisms beginning to exist right after the original sin either.

I think god would be wasting his time making microorganisms like bacteria, what use would they be in the garden of eden? Which is why I say they are a result of evolution.

The germ theory of disease is a LIE! Materialist atheists promoted it as a ploy to destroy the truer notion of spirits, and frankly, it is up to us Spiritualists to ask that our public school system teach the controversy!!

There are more cells of micro-organisms in a human body than there are human cells. The ignorance exhibited here as to the important functions of these tiny creatures is shattering. Without them all life on Earth would be impossible.

Yes. I think creationism sees just big animals and completely ignore all the small parts like microorganisms, cells, DNA etc that make up these big animals. Like god said "right, here's a giraffe. Forget what it's made out of, it's a giraffe OK??"

Until Anton von Loewenhoek invented the microscope no one knew there were micro-organisms. The guys who wrote the Bible were incredibly ignorant.

Not to mention that it looks probable that mitochondria (the energy producing organelles which take care of oxidative metabolism) were once bacteria that were engulfed by the cells of our ancestors. How does that fit in with the seven-day literal creationist dogma?

More so than the bacteria and viruses, there is an animal which makes little sense in light of Judaic creation myths.

It comes in many(easily a thousand) species and features a body plan with legs, head, paws and claws. It eats and defecates. Its small, but not so small that it cannot sometimes be seen with unaided eyes that know where to look(unlike bacteria). No animal depends on their existence. As such, if they went extinct, there would be no known effects on the environment(again, unlike bacteria). Life would continue just fine without them. They would not be missed (except by me).

They are Tardigrada, the water bears. Probably the toughest damn animals on earth. I love em.

Fascinating aren't they - mitochondria. You could describe them as the most prolific and successful organism / living thing on the planet. All plants and animals are each vast cities of them and are totally dependent on them, and they on us. The ultimate symbiotic relationship. They have their own genetic code which passes down the maternal line in mammals. I gather that study of their genetics has even helped to track the ancestral routes of humans out of Africa and around the world. Isn't science great!

NO he is correct, materialism is WRONG, nothing can be explained or understood by science, which is why homeopathy is the medicine of the Lord, after all what is homeopathy but sanctified water. I am with AG; WP's own STRIDENT anti-materialist

Nothing can be explained or understood including the computer and the electronic communication network or which to type nonsense. Materialism, in particular naturalistic understanding of the physical world is why the human population is over six billion.

Physical science is the most successful undertaking of the human race.

I think that for the most part microbes have been given a bum rap by the news media. People seem to associate most microbes such as bacteria to death, disease and suffering. But the vast majority of microbes are essential to sustaining both mankind and nature and only about 5–10% of all bacteria are pathogenic.

And since the vast majority of microbes are essential to life, I find it quite reasonable to believe that God may initially have created microbes as a beneficial component to life during creation week. And I believe that the pathogenic microbes, which are typically called germs, and which cause such things as influenza, malaria, botulism, etc., are on planet earth because of the fall of mankind and are therefore a deviation from God's original plan.
