What does the word supernatural mean?

Can you give one example of a supernatural event which has taken place this year 2010?

What is it?

---

In the Bible, there are descriptions of supernatural events such as:

Noah and the Ark
Moses parting the Red Sea

Some non-profit, tax-exempt religious denominations (2010) interpret those as real events vs other non-profit, tax-exempt religious denominations interpret them as simply inspiration stories which never, ever happened.

For me, the definition itself of "supernatural" proves it doesn't exist. Everything is from "nature" or isn't at all. Believing people sometimes say I'm close-minded. If they knew...

Well to me, the word supernatural means the imagination of people going into overdrive. I cannot think of any event that happened this year that was supernatural, but there probably would have been things percieved as being supernatural by people who believe in it and would stretch their imaginations far enough. For example lots of so called "supernatural" accurancies would have happened at tarot readings and spiritualist churches.

Supernatural -- not governed by any physical laws.

Since everything thing in the Cosmos is governed by physical laws (i.e. the actions of everything is describable by physical laws) then everything is physical and natural. There is no supernatural.

"Supernatural" means something that is not governed by the universal laws of physics. I don't believe that anything supernatural has happened in this universe since it began.

i disagree. i've channelled energy through my hands, felt the energy others have thrown from their hands, and heard ghosts. i'm sure there's more, but my memory is failing me as always. also, check out this: http://www.noeticsciences.co.uk/weighti ... uman-soul/

It basically means unexplained.

Stuff happens and we don't know why.

Take someone who has lived their whole life isolated in some Amazon rain forest. Show them a light switch or a TV and they'll think it's real freaky.

This isn't recent but there has been some new research this year.

When a pretty girl takes off her clothes, that's natural. When a beautiful woman discards her clothing that's super natural.

There is a difference between "unexplained" and "out of physical laws". Nothing can happen out of physicial laws, this is just logical. Why not, maybe there are ghosts or strange energy in our body. But ! Ghosts and Co must be submitted to physical laws too.

Question for you: are physical laws descriptions of the physical operations of matter and energy, or are they prescriptions of the physical operations of matter and energy?

But do we really know what all those physical laws are?

Right. And if ghosts can walk through walls, how come they don't fall through the floor?

You probably saw that movie with Patric Swayze and Demi Moore.

No. Just a matter of logic. If ghosts, on the other hand, are unaffected by gravity, they would gave a hell of a time matching Earth's revolutions to stay in one spot. Probably that's why all the ghosts are at the north or south pole where they don't have to run so fast to stay in one spot. That is, assuming they have some way to remain in the galaxy.

Getting back to the original post, the prefix "super" is emphatic, so someone super smart is very smart and super clean is very clean. So supernatural should mean very natural. Ghosts and gods and such should be subnatural or perhaps unnatural since they don't exist in nature.
But if they do, then, of course, they are natural.
