Well, the riding where my childhood home is located, which has voted in New Democrats since it's inception 2004 (and its predessor riding has voted in New Democrats since 1997) has just elected Liberal Kevin Lamoureux - a former Liberal Manitoba MLA whose main "accomplishment" has been attempts to micromanage the Regional Health Authorities. My city's trash rag of a paper - the Winnipeg Sun - is gloating about the New Democrat (Kevin Chief's) loss. The woman who resigned the seat to run for mayor - Judy Wasylycia-Leis - lost the mayoral bid and it looks like the Progressive Conservative Party is going to take the Provincial Legislature in 2011.

I bloody well hope there's a silver lining somewhere - does Nettie Wiebe have any chance of winning Saskatoon-Rosetown-Biggar next federal election?

The only silver linning for me is that at least Canada's not as crazy as Tea Party, auction off the state, America.

EDIT: LATER NOTES

Kevin Chief (New Democrat) lost 6,490 to 7,303 to Kevin Lamoureux.

Does anyone familar with federal ridings in Alberta know if any of the boundaries (particularly for the Urban ridings) have been changed? If so many urban ridings in Alberta stop being stretched out into the country side, there's a chance the Tories could lose a few seats in their most solid province next election.

Right - I figured as soon as I saw that Canadian affiliation.

At one point I was hearing quite a lot about the NDP - one close friend in Vancouver, though not so active these days, is a longtime fan, for example.

While apolitical except for the occasional What fools these mortals be and occasionally wishing that humane anarchy were not impossible for our species, I have to say that what i have heard of the NDP has moved me toward suspecting it of beng the closest thing to a rational party in our neighbour to the north, and I can join you in deploring the loss of an NDP seat to the liberals.

One 1999 event really annoyed me, though

Ja, well, politics schmolitics. Parties is humans and humans got foibles and collections of humans got collections of foibles. Forgive them, the know not what they do.

If a party could consistently act like a Mensch we would not need Benign and Intelligent Anarchy.

The "discipline" didn't really make a lot of sense, though, as quite a few studies have shown that the nonreligious tend to be the strongest Dipper supporters.

Needless to say, the incident is over ten years old, so I'll let it pass!

If we held everyone accountable for every stupidity, cockroaches would have to work for a living.
