at the risk of sounding "rude"

Did you know that a link has been established between intelligence and religious belief and, you guessed it, atheists are, by and large, smarter than people of faith.

I don't remember either myself or any of my nerdy christian friends being tested, and I doubt any of the rather... let's go with ignorant atheists I have had the... experience of meeting were tested.

How do we know that those who operated the test did not specifically pick ignorant theists and educated atheists in order to achieve desired results?

these tests don't mean anything and never will.

IQ tests - even standardized and applied with no axes to grind - have frequently been questioned as to their validity. They have oft been challeneged at aimed at a specific culture.

Gee - in the US today there is a cultural gap twixt Christian and atheist, yes no?

I don't think the ultra religious are biologically dumb or anything, but the attitude that literal interpretations religion forces one to take towards logic is hardly going to win them any IQ brownie points.

Neither would the average college education of today, if the test were properly constructed.

I should think before I post, but being college educated and college educator and Christian makes me triple dumb.

Note that literal interpretation religion is a very small minority, while media sheep are a large majority.

Correlation vs. causation.

This is probably more because Atheists tend to be better educated, and smarter people are better educated as well.

... implying that large groups of people are stupid tends to make them angry? Really, what is the purpose here other than to stir up some drama?

By definition IQ places half the world population at a level below an IQ of 100. An imbecile is rated with an IQ of under 50. That's an awful lot of people.

Just pointing out the results of a study.

But this thread specifically implies that people holding a certain set of beliefs are less intelligent, not that as a whole plenty of people are dumb. We've been through this before, and though I'm no friend of religion and it's adherents I question the need to further belittle them here.

Depends on the standard deviation of IQ in the human population.

there's a reason I posted this. Oops, did I say "reason"? I meant to say dogma.

Every time one of US tries pointing out something OBVIOUS in YOUR STINKING BOOK, you're always, "show me where it says that..." or , "it doesn't say anything about beating children!"

If you want to be a christian or a catholic or a jew, FINE, just read your own book and know what it says and don't plead ignorance every time someone brings up an arguing point!

Yes, the bible says you should beat your children and subjugate women. Should we do that today? No??? Why not? You want to be MORAL don't you?

Yes, you want to be moral but you don't want to beat children...I commend you. What's that? You say abortions are evil and homosexuality is a sin?

But, weren't those rules written a thousand years ago and not applicable today just as the women and children thing was?Isn't it possible that the rules and guidelines set fourth in that book are so outdated and quite possibly written by misogynists and bigots and homophobes and child abusers? Can't you be open to a little bit of reason and rationality or do you want to be stuck in the dark ages?

Yes, I was calling religious zealots dumb.

There is some hope in that belittling people they might rethink their viewpoint. Of course it makes them angry and probably highly defensive of being belittled but people have to be shooken up somehow to make them think. It probably, in the long run, merely generates negative emotions, but perhaps here and there an individual might start thinking.

I think it's far and away better than calling non-believers amoral and damned.

Call me an evil-doer,will ya?

No, you targeted everyone who holds religious beliefs.
