Well, they say that the head of the Egyptian secret police will become vice-president and the Americans and Israelis so far are pleased with the possibility that this man will implement Mubarakism without Mubarak, and they're going on about the need for continuity. The idea is that this vice-president can quickly take over if necessary. The support for tyranny expressed by the U.S. and Israel is quite interesting to say the least considering the similarity all of this has to the Velvet Revolutions and Coloured Revolutions they have so lionised over the recent years.

It's hilarious to see this CNN analyst who suggested that this man is responsible for the so-called 911 attacks, as he said that his whack-a-mole campaign against radical Islamists brought Ayman al-Zawahiri and Usama bin Laden together to create this team from Hell blamed for 911. That if not for his "effective" work as what the CNN host said was his description as a "thug", this alliance would not have happened. People should also know that Muhammad Atta was also Egyptian.

If the Muslim Brotherhood is deeply embedded in these protests, then I think we need to be worried about swapping the devil we know for the devil we don't.

I would very much like to know where the hands of Iran, Syria and Hamas are, just at the moment.

They've been saying on Al Jazeera that the Muslim Brotherhood does not have any interest in governing.

A sure sign that the opposite is the case. No "news" organization lied quite like Al Jezeera, not eve Fox News.

There are certainly islamicists following this closely. They waged a brutal terror campaign in the mid-90s in Egypt and the primary goal of the movement is to depose regional leaders and re-establish the Caliphate. I dont think their support will be wide enough to get far, but they are likely looking for an opening.

The Brotherhood was with the U.S. back in the '50s and '60s in that alliance with the Saudis and the Imamate of Yemen.

Uh, Fox News was about the only network that stood up to and pointed out the lies Al Jezeera was spewing back in 2006. Heck just about every other media outlet including CNN ran with doctored photos.

Al-Jazeera being lectured about inventing news by Fox News? How amusing. The whole ACORN faux scandal anyone?

Why am I not shocked to find out that Egypt was another shining example of neoliberal economics? The percentage of people making less than $2 a day has doubled since the IMF reforms began in 1991 and in 2004 they practically went flat tax by halving the income taxes on the very rich. It's the same Social Darwinist formula that has unfortunately been the main U.S. export since Reagan and it is this more than anything else that's causing the scenes of anger out there in Egypt.

Mubarak seems to know it because it helps explain the dismissal of a highly neoliberal government and his mistaken belief that this would help appease things, and the second major indication is that with the naming of this vice-president, his son, totally identified with neoliberal economics, no longer is in the succession. They hate Mubarak's son more than they hate Mubarak. The son is practically a bankster, if I'm not mistaken.

A show of hands topic

The obvious: Dictatorships are always unstable regimes. Few can withstand the imbalance. That Cuba and China survive probably means that they have been fortunate, and that being an island (Cuba) and very large (China) have made the geography formidable to successful rebellion (at the moment).

I just read that China is clamping down on googling the word Egypt. within her borders. No surprise here.

I bet you think the upset in Egypt is caused by economic factors. No. No. No. Radical Islam is at the root of it.

19 out of the 20 Muslims who carried out the 9/11 outrage were either rich or upper middle class. Poverty was not at the root of their action. Islamic insanity was.

The terrorist masterminds do so in the knowledge that there's an angry population who will support what they see as righteous revenge against evil forces - and will thus reward them with power and influence. What's going on with the uprising has nothing really to do with terrorism, other than this is a manifestation of the anger that terrorists know exist and are hoping to exploit. They see a government that does the bidding of the U.S. and Israel, yes, and is bought off indicating corruption. They see this corruption manifested also in the application of self-serving neoliberal economics also implemented by U.S. "suggestion", economics done to the detriment of the large majority of people in the country but that help justify the taking of it all by a tiny elite as the Americans tell us is natural law and is demanded thus as a matter of justice. These people are not acting under terrorist guidance, they're simply angry as the terrorists know which is why the terrorists do their thing.

Now they will suffer God's Terror dished out by the Wahabi and the Brotherhood.

Which is worse? God's Terror or being a lackey of the Imperialists?

It's worse to be a lackey of the imperialists. When the percentage of the population making $2 a day or less doubles since 1991, that proves it.

Countries run by lackeys of imperialism or under imperial occupation, that's where.

Egypt is the ultimate "bitter medicine" country. A regime that announces it has no choice but to pursue the most unsatisfying and unpopular policies possible but says "it's for your own good". Mulroney liked to play that game when he ran Canada. In Egypt it contrasts sharply with Nasser's rule that was much more broadly-based and his policies were far more in tune with popular opinion.
