We all know that the Bible comes down quite hard on male homosexuality, with execution being the punishment for engaging in such activity.

However, some churches in modern times have gone soft on homosexuality.

Regarding abortion, the Bible seems silent. No death penalty for abortionists nor for women who obtain an abortion, as far as I can tell.

Still, most modern churches come down hard on abortion.

What does the Bible say specifically about abortion?

Which is why they had to come up with the BS argument that life begins at conception so that they could then argue that abortion is wrong.

Too many assumptions there. But yes, we do some reasonable starting point, and I think few people would say Scriptural silence means abortion is perfectly okay.

Birth is a reasonable starting point.

So it might seem, but then what about people who premeditate and "lay in wait" to keep (murder) a fetus from ever taking even its first breath?

That's aggrivated assault.

Under halachah (Jewish law) a new born is not a person until 33 days old (for a male) and 66 days old (for a female).

Would that be one of the writings that might also found in the bible?

See http://www.rabbinicalassembly.org/teshu ... ewborn.pdf

In Judaism, the Oral tradition is as authoritative as the written tradition.

Yes, at least, and certainly unacceptable.

Not for a Karaite, but I do not know whether a Karaite would view abortion as "laying in wait" to murder.

How many Karites left? 23?

Your modern day Karites are Protestants who interpret bad translation of the bible literally.

I only know one, yet the fact remains that the Oral tradition is not authoritative throughout Judaism.

The only thing I can think of that might be considered directly contingent to that question is in Exodus. 21:22-25 But unfortunately there is such a stand off between pro lifers and pro choicers as to the best translation that the verse is not clear to anyone who hasn't already invested themselves in one view or the other.

That is true of the reform movement. But the written Torah is not authoritative for them either.

Of observant Jews, the vast majority regard the Oral tradition as authoritative (if not more so) than the written tradition. In any case the Talmud is quoted more often.

The Karite movement, for all practical purposes, died out a thousand years ago.

The only Karites left or the bible pounding Christian ideologues. And they pick and chose carefully from the written scripture which is why they don't keep Kosher with their food habits.

Mosaic law says that if someone by accident killed an unborn child, that person should be executed. (Exodus 21: 22,23). This shows that according to the Bibel the life of an unborn child is as valuable as any other living person.
Psalm 139:16 also shows that the unborns are valuable in Gods eyes.
