Megyn Kelly Covers Internal NBPP Probe... For 20 Seconds

An hour and a half into today's broadcast of Fox News' America Live, after two days of completely ignoring the story, Megyn Kelly finally got to reporting on the Office of Professional Responsibility's statement that they had completed their review of the Justice Department's handling of the New Black Panther Party case and determined that DOJ's attorneys engaged in no "professional wrongdoing." For 20 seconds.

The brief reference to the OPR statement came in the middle of a one-minute-four-second news brief which largely focused on Rep. Frank Wolf's (R-VA) demand to the DOJ for documents related to the case:

KELLY: Well, new developments today in the New Black Panther voter intimidation case. Congressman Frank Wolf now giving the Department of Justice a 30-day deadline to produce documents on why it essentially dropped major portions of that voter intimidation case. You may remember on Election Day in 2008 members of the New Black Panther Party were caught on videotape holding a nightstick and hurling racial taunts at white and black voters as they entered a polling station in Philadelphia. The Department of Justice decided internally, in connection with an internal probe, that no wrongdoing occurred, and that neither race nor politics played any role - no politics, I should say -- in the dismissal of those charges. Now, that's from the DOJ's Office of Professional Conduct, clearing essentially the lawyers in the case. Now that the DOJ 's investigation is over, Congressman Wolf is pushing Congress to get their hands on the documents. He's the chair of the subcommittee on Commerce and Justice that's been looking into this case.

So if you're following:

Kelly held off on reporting on the OPR statement clearing DOJ attorneys of wrongdoing until there was comparable news of a GOP congressperson accusing DOJ of wrongdoing.
Kelly didn't even bother to get the name of the internal investigating body correct, calling it the Office of Professional Conduct.
After initially reporting correctly that the OPR found that "neither race nor politics" played any role in the DOJ's actions, Kelly walked back the findings on race.
Kelly spent less time on the story than she spent today on the feud between the "Barefoot Contessa" and a Make-A-Wish child:

Between the release of the OPR statement and her minimal, belated report, Kelly also devoted airtime to the allegation of a "studio cover-up" regarding how much dancing Natalie Portman did in the making of the movie Black Swan, kids who got stuck in the mud, a YouTube video of two girls in a fistfight, a missing cobra, a tent collapse in Florida, an upcoming special on cannibalism in New Guinea from National Geographic Channel, and the deaths of two skydivers in a mid-air collision.

Remember, Kelly spent much of last July -- over three and a half hours in a mere two weeks -- pushing baseless claims that the Obama administration's actions in the case demonstrated that they refuse to protect white voters from black intimidators. You would think she would have some sort of responsibility to spend some significant amount of time reporting that the story fell apart.

But after all, this is Fox News.

Figured I should post this since there was such a big noise about it back when Fox was hyping it up.

I really wish that more people were aware that Fox is an entertainment company first, and an honest news source second. At least, when it comes to things like this. I doubt they're going to put a Right-wing spin on the weather, but you never know...

They're a propaganda machine first. Their goal is brainwashing. Entertainment is just the medium they use for this effect.

She is largely ignoring what the DoJ is saying because the clearing of charges is a white-wash and anyone with half a brain knows it, furthermore Fox News has covered this on their website several places have shown that this clearing is a load of bull****.

To break this down in laymens terms: You have the accused clearing themselves of charges, and if you seem to think that is a legitimate then quite frankly you are an idiot. There is too much evidence that has been made public plus 2 people's testimony (1 individual resigned from the DoJ in protest over this, and the DoJ has been put on notice there will be hell to pay if they take any action towards the witness, after this individual defied the DoJ to testify (in other words the DoJ was committing Obstruction of Justice)).

Additionally, Mediamatters has literally no credibility when it comes to Fox News, and should be charged for Tax Fraud (violating their 501c status), since they declared a partisan war on Fox News.

I've already posted this point up in a seperate topic that I know you know about.

So in one post, I've pretty much completely destroyed your argument.

It isn't a partisan war if Fox News isn't partisan.

The Justice Department brought a case in January under the voter intimidation statutes against the New Black Panther Party, the individuals who organized the deployment and the folks with the weapons in Philadelphia at the polls.

MEGYN KELLY, "AMERICA LIVE" HOST: Ok, and so the guy we see banging the baton, he was one defendant. The guy next to him who was said to have been saying intimidating things, he was a defendant. The New Black Panther Party was a defendant and the head of it was a defendant.

ADAMS: That’s right, all four.

KELLY: Ok, and what was basically the heart of the case against them.

ADAMS: Yeah, this 1965 Voting Rights Act protects voters from voter intimidation. You’re supposed to be able to go vote without somebody with a weapon shouting racial slurs at you like these folks were doing in Philadelphia.

KELLY: What were they saying?

ADAMS: Well, they said, “You’re about to be ruled by the black man, Cracker”. They called people “white devils”. They menaced, they tapped their baton. They tried to stop people from entering the polls.

Mr. Adams testified under oath concerning this, so are you accusing him of perjury?

ADAMS: Yeah. It’s obviously false that they knew all the evidence. They, uh, Steve Rosenbaum hadn’t even read the memos which detailed all of the facts and the law. Before he started arguing against the case the mind was made up. And it was so derelict and so corrupt that Chris Coates actually threw the memo at Steve Rosenbaum and said how dare you make these arguments without even knowing what’s in the briefs?

KELLY: So, your boss, the guy that had been a career DOJ lawyer, voting rights lawyer, throws the memo, throws a brief at the head of this guy Steve Rosenbaum?

You then had Chris Coates defy the Justice Department to testify before the US Commission of Civil Rights.


The Justice Department is failing to apply the law equally to minority and white Americans, ex-Justice official Christopher Coates testified Friday morning — defying orders from the department against appearing before the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.

Since former Justice official J. Christian Adams testified in July about the biased culture there, the commission saw Coates as the man able to corroborate Adams’s claims. Further, as the the former head of the Voting Section of the Civil Rights Division, Coates was a key witness to the handling of cases, specifically the New Black Panther (NBPP) case. In that case, the Justice Department dropped charges of voter intimidation against members of the NBPP who on election day 2008 stood outside of a polling place dressed in military garb and hurled racial slurs at white voters (one brandishing a nightstick).

Coates discussed the NBPP case in great detail on Friday, saying that the reason for the case’s dismissal was hostility within the division against prosecuting cases that involved a white victim and minority defendant.

“[A] large number of the people who worked in the Voting Section and the CRD (Civil Rights Division), and many of the liberal private groups that work in the civil rights field believe, incorrectly but vehemently, that enforcement of the protections of the VRA (Voting Rights Act) should not be extended to white voters but should be limited to protecting racial, ethnic and language minorities,” Coates testified.

Attorney General Eric Holder finally got fed up Tuesday with claims that the Justice Department went easy in a voting rights case against members of the New Black Panther Party because they are African American.

Holder's frustration over the criticism became evident during a House Appropriations subcommittee hearing as Rep. John Culberson (R-Texas) accused the Justice Department of failing to cooperate with a Civil Rights Commission investigation into the handling of the 2008 incident in which Black Panthers in intimidating outfits and wielding a club stood outside a polling place in Philadelphia.

The Attorney General seemed to take personal offense at a comment Culberson read in which former Democratic activist Bartle Bull called the incident the most serious act of voter intimidation he had witnessed in his career.

"Think about that," Holder said. "When you compare what people endured in the South in the 60s to try to get the right to vote for African Americans, and to compare what people were subjected to there to what happened in Philadelphia—which was inappropriate, certainly that…to describe it in those terms I think does a great disservice to people who put their lives on the line, who risked all, for my people," said Holder, who is black.

Someone needs to break it to Eric Holder that two wrongs do not make a right, and as Attorney General he is supposed to treat people equally under the law, regardless of what race they are. While Democrats and the corrupt DoJ try to whitewash the issue, Republicans are not going to let this issue go.
