Fox News and Glenn Beck 'using' Holocaust
Open letter signed by 400 rabbis tells media magnate his news channel uses Holocaust to discredit people it disagrees with


Four hundred rabbis, including the leaders of all the main branches of Judaism in the US, have signed an open letter calling on Rupert Murdoch to sanction the head of Fox News and one of the channel's most famous hosts for frequent inappropriate references to the Nazis and the Holocaust.

The rabbis chose a poignant place to make their protest: they took out an advert costing at least $100,000 in one of Murdoch's own newspapers, the Wall Street Journal. The advert was printed today – the UN-designated Holocaust Remembrance Day.

In the letter, the Jewish coalition calls on Murdoch to take action against Roger Ailes, the bombastic president of Fox News, as well as against Glenn Beck, the channel's most notorious rightwing commentator. "We share a belief that the Holocaust, of course, can and should be discussed appropriately in the media. But that is not what we have seen at Fox News," the letter says.

"You diminish the memory and meaning of the Holocaust when you use it to discredit any individual or organisation you disagree with. That is what Fox News has done in recent weeks."

Last November Ailes called executives of the public radio network NPR "Nazis" for having sacked a news analyst, Juan Williams, who also worked for Fox News, after Williams said he felt nervous flying on the same plane as passengers in Muslim dress. Ailes apologised to a Jewish group for the expression, though not to NPR.

Beck has made innumerable references to Nazis and the Holocaust, most starkly in his hounding of Jewish financier George Soros, whom he has accused of sending Jews to the "death camps". Soros was a teenager in Nazi-occupied Hungary and survived by hiding with a Christian family.

The advert is signed by the heads of the Reform, Conservative and Reconstructionist affiliations within Judaism, as well as by several Orthodox Jews. It was organised by the Jewish Funds for Justice, which earlier this month demanded the dismissal of Beck.

A Fox News executive dismissed the letter, telling Reuters it was the work of a "George Soros-backed leftwing political organisation".

Hell, people have already backtracked the funding for this latest witchhunt by the left, which is funded by George Soros.

You know at this point I say Glenn Beck should sue this "Jewish Group" and I use the term loosely for defamation of charecter.

Really, I'm not surprised George Soros would try this again, nor am I surprised that you picked up this story again (which you know (skafather84) is politically motivated not concern over anti-semitism). At this point though, I think people are starting to see through the left's tactics of trying to censor people that they don't agree with.

Actually, Inuyasha, the ZOA did not call the signatories, "a bunch of idiots." Use of hyperbole in your paraphrasing just makes you look like an angry, ill-read young man.

But to the substance. Perhaps, indeed, Soros has bankrolled this particular piece of propaganda. Perhaps, indeed, they are attempting to denigrate Beck. But does that invalidate what they say?

The leadership of NPR are not now and never have been Nazis. They may have behaved in an arbitrary way to squelch an opinion expressed by one of their employees, but that does not make them Nazis. And when Beck waters down the word by applying it to those with whom he disagrees, he does a disservice to himself, and insults the memory of those who were persecuted by actual Nazis, and who continue to be persecuted by neo-Nazis.

They sound like a bunch of nutters every time they say any outside criticism is some sort of left wing plot.

Actually, Inuyasha there isn't anything in what he said that makes him evil. It merely looks like the man was being more honest than he should have been. As a matter of fact it almost sounds like something someone with AS might say. Of course Glenn Beck and his right-wing followers are going to try to paint him as some kind of psychopath since they already believe he must be evil (because he's a liberal after all).

If you pay careful attention, and don't play like you're an idiot in an act of blind self-serving bias, you can see exactly what Beck was trying to do with his sloppy wording. Notice that Soros never said his participation in the act of confiscating property was the "happiest time of his life". In reality he was referring to the broader time period of the Nazi occupation. Beck and countless right-wing hack-turds have tried to falsely insinuate to thier viewers/readers that George Soros' forced participation in the confiscating Jewish property and his "happiest time of my life" quote are directly linked in order to portray him in is poor of light as possible. That is where the deliberate smearing comes in.

There's also the fact that Beck falsely accused Soros of "helping send Jews to the death camps" and never apologized. Like a coward he merely backpedaled and pretended he didn't really mean what he literally said (a blatantly false statement BTW, as the Jews who's property he helped confiscate had already fled the country).

The left's smear campaign towards Glenn Beck is not going to work, you and others on the left have pretty much innoculated Beck from anything you can throw at him.

You know, I think I know the real reason why the left is so obsessed with Palin, Beck, Limbaugh, Hannity, O'Reilly, etc. They are afraid of them. They are afraid they are losing control of the message.

Grass Roots: The president says he didn't watch any of Glenn Beck's "Restore Honor" rally on the National Mall. That's not surprising. Democrats and the White House haven't been listening to the people for awhile.

Whistling past the political graveyard looming for his party in November, President Obama dismissed the crowd gathered to hear the Fox News pundit, telling Brian Williams of the NBC Nightly News, "It's not surprising that someone like a Mr. Beck is able to stir up a certain portion of (the American people) ... "

He dismissed this crowd just as he and his party dismissed the "angry mobs" that descended on health care town meetings wanting to know why their government no longer wanted to hear their voices or seek out the consent of the governed. Those people were also said to have been "stirred up" by political opponents and conservative talk radio.

This genuine grass-roots movement was dismissed as "astroturfing" by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and others. But their anger did not have to be manufactured. It was a quite natural response to a government that is bankrupting their children and grandchildren as it spends money we don't have on things that don't work.

"Mr. Beck" didn't manufacture the people on the Mall. He merely has given them a voice and a focal point, and a reminder that we are endowed with inalienable rights from a higher authority than any gaggle of senators and representatives. "We the people" assembled on the Mall, not an angry mob stirred up by rabble-rousers.

The movement that met on the Mall and had coalesced into what became known as the Tea Party comes from different parties and, despite what the so-called mainstream media say, different ethnic groups and nationalities. They have one thing in common: They are tired of being ignored. They are opposed to the kind of arrogance that convinces a president that maybe he just didn't make himself clear enough and he only needs to make more speeches in a perpetual campaign to get it through our thick skulls.

It is the kind of arrogance that Pelosi demonstrated when she said we'd have to pass health care reform to find out what's in it and that government needs to intervene between a patient and a doctor. People are tired of votes bought through Cornhusker kickbacks and bills written behind closed doors that are voted on without being read.

At this point, all you and the rest of the people on the left has proven that you have absolutely no credibility when it concerns Beck, Palin, Hannity, Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Fox News, etc.

Also, it is beyond arrogant of the right to make the claim that they alone represent the "American People". It reminds me of what communist/socialist totalitarians do. They always talk about "the people" rising up against some vague oppressor. Everything is about "the people" and anyone who disagrees be damned. This is yet more proof that right-wingers are indeed projecting when they warn of dictatorial ambitions/conspiracies which they tag to anyone who disagrees with them. As soon as the right-wingers gain any power they will become the true tyrants. True tyrants always pretend to appeal to the "common man". With the Nazi's it was the German/Aryan "Volk" with Communism it was the "Proletariat". They always have an irrational persecution complex as well.

Back to the original point - Glenn Beck has offended Jewish people by throwing the accusation of being Nazis at his political opponents, when Nazism and the holocaust were painful chapters of Jewish history. The simple fact is, nobody, but NOBODY can realistically be called Hitler, or an actual Nazi in this country. President Obama is not Hitler. The former President Bush was not Hitler. Even Glenn Beck is not Hitler - just a hurtful and attention grabbing a**hole. Neither American liberalism or conservatism gave birth to the holocaust. But to throw the Nazi label around at people you don't agree with, or to say that current policies are going to lead to a new holocaust does nothing but water down the true horror of totalitarianism, and insults the memory of its victims. And this, Glenn Beck, AKA Caspar the frenzied ghost, is definitely guilty of.

And I didn't watch Glenn Beck's horse s**t on the mall either. So, nah!
