I get that a lot. The movies, they lie. There is such a thing as a Swedish accent (I mostly lost mine), but it actually sounds nothing like the Hollywood version. I still haven't found where the Hollywood Swedish accent originated from. One theory I heard was that it's based on a dutch accent heard on the American East Coast in the 1700s, and somewhere along the way New Netherlands and New Sweden got mixed up, and over time it was just assumed to be an actual Swedish Accent, which it's obviously not. This theory is obviously hard to verify at this point.

As a huge fan of the Jim Henson Company, it just so happens that I can sort of do an impression of the Swedish Chef already. Who in turn supposedly is based on a "How to Speak Mock Swedish" tape Jim Henson had. Which in turn is based on the previously mentioned completely non-Swedish accent that may or may not have been a cultural meme in the States since the 1700s.
