Does anyone else find a moral inconsistency with the negative societal attitudes towards incest given its relatively postive attitudes on abortion and homosexual love?

I'm not arguing for any stance in this post, but I just see a moral inconsistency with attitudes towards two other things (in bold above).

Let me list 2 common arguments against incest...
1) Even with birth control, there is always a chance that there will be a deformed offspring.
2) Even if the woman was sterile, it is wrong and unnatural for siblings or parents-children (assuming both above the age of consent) to engage in sexual intercourse.

So for argument #1, isn't it funny how people generally have a more relaxed attitude towards 2 people who are not related to have sex and result in an unplanned pregnancy, then get an abortion?? Why is it OK to get an abortion for unplanned pregnancy but at the same time frowned upon the chance of a deformed child? Ever thought of performing an abortion on the deformed fetus (hey, it would be morally consistent with people who think abortion from an unplanned pregnancy is totally fine)?

For argument #2, its not as strong of an argument since you can say that sexual relationships between siblings or parents are awkward since they are family and you will have a familial bond aside from a sexual bond. But if people are saying that 2 siblings can't fall in love with each other, isn't that the same argument against homosexual love? Both say it is "unnatural". Why the relaxed attitude towards homosexual love?

For those who are curious, I made this thread because in a psychology class, we are currently talking about morality and an example of incest was discussed, with the prof saying that people actually could not come up with logical moral reasoning as to why incest is wrong (given society's moral principles on other issues such as sex between 2 consenting adults is OK).

If either or both parties are immature, the potential for psychological damage is quite large.

And really, Arrested Development taught us everything we need to know about incest.

Family is important. Family means having subjugate your will to others for the good of the family, and the net effect is a positive for all. Provided nobody is a giant a**hole.

George Michael can't date Maeby because even though she isn't genetically his cousin, she is family, and pursuing that relationship will involve emotional stresses that will prevent the family unit from functioning.

It creates certain safety within a family. I think it must stay this way. I do not see any moral inconsistencies - having incest children might have a long lasting negative impact on society and homosexuality is more about sexual attraction/orientation than it is about love. Unfortunately if incest is about love then a family might follow and they would eventually have children (as this video illustrates). Only having sex between both mature siblings might be fine if there are no feelings involved which is impossible. This is walking a fine line between validating mentally disordered behaviour. A family is a very important unit of human society which cannot be violated with incest. Incest is socially destructive behaviour! Abortion is only a matter of debate whether killing something which is not even a human yet is right and fortunately it is legal mostly everywhere. Homosexuality is freedom - it doesn't destroy families it helps people to be happy. Could you imagine society where incest is completely OK (b/c it does create a lot of psychological damage any other way)? Maybe then, for some fancy psychological reason, everyone would marry within their own families? Would this mess people up? However I might just agree with cousin marriages even though I still don't see no moral inconsistency.

It depends on how you define a family unit. Some people say that the parents of a family unit must be a male and a female (thus, having the view that homosexual relationship plus adoption is unacceptable).

i disagree. I think the dynamics work the same in any family unit.

Extends to reasons why it's kinda sketchy to date people you work with, or whom you transact business with regularly.

Well, in this video it seems like the couple is having children on purpose. See, that would make a case for it to be a crime to do that. But I'm saying that even if the woman was sterile (0% chance of getting pregnant) society still views it negatively but I don't see how its much different from homosexual love. I can't judge if the people in the video are faking it, but both are consenting and are agreeing to be in the relationship.

So in your opinion, its wrong for someone to date another person they met at their workplace? I agree that some relationships are a bit weird if you take it to a sexual level, but I think you would agree with me that the government has no place in telling certain workmates who work together not to pursue a sexual relationship right?

Afterall, my mom and dad met when they were both teachers at a school.

I don't think that matters (though personally I am bothered by homosexuals raising children). I don't think that people who grew up together or raised/were raised by can have psychologically healthy sexual relationship, I think it somehow clashes with psichology's laws..

No i think it's a matter of degree, and not the same thing, but on the same spectrum. we know about spectrums here.

But having a sexual relationship with someone who reports to you is sketchy for a lot of the same spectrum of reasons as why it's sketchy to have a sexual relationship with your child who has acheived the age of consent.

Homosexuality is about orientation it has nothing to do with family. If you allow homosexuality people who are such might lead happy and fulfilled lives w/o ruining the lives of two other people and bunch of children. How is it similar? There is no harm for society in homosexual relationships (adoption is a matter of debate). And lets make the man sterile  Anyhow it has to do a lot with family unit and children so that sterile case is very hypothetical, however, legalizing it might be plausible only if it is between siblings and not parent-children. The latter calls for a psychiatric examination and I bet statistically this is true.

Agreed it disturbs the unit although it is obviously nothing illegal or wrong - it just not morally right from certain angles.

Some twins (of the same gender) do work together in the porn industry.

Speaking of which, aren't Japanese twins on every man's bucket list?

Usually those girls seem pretty careful about not touching each-other in no-no places.

And, uh, yes?

Yes, but no reason for it to be illegal, especially when there is no need to worry about a messed up child. If both are consenting adults, its their business and they put any psychological consequences that may come on themselves.

I would caution against any adoption though...
