Those of you from outside the UK probably won't remember this obnoxious little creep.

He was the one who tried to get the BBC not to show Jerry Springer: The Opera, the one who bullied a cancer charity into declining a donation from the proceeds of a performance Jerry Springer: The Opera after he and his mob of delusional fruitcakes threatened to picket its premises which offer care to cancer sufferers. His former partner alleges he is a wife-beater, and was narrowly passed over for the "Bigot of the Year" award, making him quite aggrieved I think. Melanie Phillips won it this year.

Amongst other things he believes that gay people should be murdered (he supported the notorious Ugandan Anti-homosexuality Bill in 2009), that marital rape shouldn't be a crime and compares abortion to the Holocaust. In November 2008, following the failed private prosecution by Emily Mapfuwa over the display of a foot-high statue of Jesus with a phallus in the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead, Stephen Green urged Christians to "create public disorder if [they] wish such a case to proceed in future", and stated that the artwork in question would "not survive being put on public display again."

So generally a lovely chap who is little different from many Islamist extremists. The difference is that the vast majority of Christians and indeed British people as a whole ignore and ridicule this offensive scumbag of a man. He speaks for nobody. He has a tiny band of deluded, deranged ultra-Christian followers. He is an embarrassment to the vast majority of Christians, who are utterly alienated by his insane rantings and treat his name with utter contempt. The nearest example I can think of in Islam would be Andy - sorry Anjem "cider drinker" Choudary.

My question is simple: what on Earth happened to this mad fruitloop? I've seen photos of him shouting his bile recently but apart from that, nothing. I haven't heard him on TV or anything like that. Perhaps he's not being attention-seeking enough.

No, we have a few here too. They're either generally isolated or are from more religiously conservative parts of the country or in places where there is a considerable amount of sectarian tension.

Perhaps he got persecuted by militant gay atheists in tutu's so he sulked off and left us alone?

No, I'm quite wrong. Apparently Mr Green is up to his old tricks again. He's launching a boycott of Tesco over their support for London Gay Pride. Not that I have much love for Gay Pride myself (I think its time has been and gone and is more counterproductive now than anything) but still, I hate to see anyone get the attentions of this nasty little squirt.

Jerry Springer shocks people by featuring people who marry their cousins but this is not incest according to the Bible.

Christian extremists exist in the UK but aren't as mainstream as they are in America. Tony Blair had an education policy that pandered to religious schools and hence religious extremists/isolationists. Tony Blair himself was quite religious but kept it under wraps as he feared it would hurt his electoral prospects (quite the inverse of the situation in America).

Generally, they're pretty isolated and scorned by most of the British public. They're seen for the nutters and fruitloops that they are.

The most severe Christian extremists are likely to be in parts of Scotland and in Northern Ireland where religion can be bound up with nationalism. Northern Ireland in particular though is secularising at a steady pace.

Sigh.
