I remember the whole thing. He used to have this tacky, rednecky looking, wooden plaque in his courtroom on the wall with the Ten Commandments on it. Somebody complained. I don't think you are supposed to have anything in the courtroom that reflects what religion the judge or any employee there is, other than personal jewelry. It's a public space so it should be neutral, as to not seem to favor any one religion over another.
Rather than take it down, he made a big thing out of it. He put a spin on it that the "Godless liberals" were trying to do away with the actual ten commandments rather than a simple plaque on the wall of his courtroom. When they made him take it down (and he could have just as easily put it up in his office, he can have anything he wants in there) he had this HUGE A** granite monument made with the ten commandments carved in it. He and some friends got the keys from somebody and snuck in the rotunda of the capitol one night and put it in there. That'll show em!
So, of course it became yet another court battle. The fundies around here acted like by removing the "I'm gonna do it anyway" monument that he snuck in there against the law at night, that their right to religion was removed. WTF?? So, when they finally came down to it and said it had to go, there was a huge protest on the steps, much weeping and praying, and they got rid of the big granite block.
Now, he's elected. I have no idea what's gonna happen to civil and human rights in this state now. I freakin' hate that man. I'm all for his practicing whatever religion he believes in, and letting others know what he believes. I'm very much against his obnoxious whiney behavior though.
What a dumb*ss.
