So sad!

I've lived in Galway so it sort of hits home for me.

The idea of always saving the fetus first is not Biblical (sorry I can't remember where in the Bible to find it). If the woman's life is in danger then it would be foolish to let both mother and child die.

It's unfair to assume people who are in favor of pro-life aren't as equally disgusted about this story as you.
What happened to this woman is barbaric; religion SHOULD NEVER have an influence on the law.

This should be a warning for the USA, that this could happen routinely in this country if pro-life extremists have their way.

Again - Plenty of people who are pro-life are equally disgusted about this story.

Not only is it not Biblical, it is also against established Catholic teaching. Aquinas thought up the doctrine of double effect with these sorts of situations in mind.

Actually, that would include me. But I have little tolerance for pro-life extremists who think the viability of the fetus is an unconditional matter. Especially since they're the exact same people who want to cut social programs for people - especially children - in need.

The bible is against the case of jeopardizing the mothers life, which adds another level to what is already a tragic situation. But more of these situations will not happen if an exception is made to a mothers physical health.

According to Halakah (Jewish Law) the abortion was required to have been performed. The life of a mother always take precedence over the life of the fetus.

I think this would disgust all but the most hardcore pro-life people. (I actually did know a person who was in a similar situation and was so Catholic she was willing to die instead of having an abortion.)
