I'm interested in this because I noticed that among the kids anyway, unfortunately, not only among them, more often bend ethical rules to get what we want.

Lie at work, lie at school, cheating on your resume.

I never lied to register on social networking, maybe I did it once when I set up my email account but I did not know then that in order to create an email account in my country you have to be at least 15 years, then I had 14 years, moreover, which 14-year-old reads the Legal acts :-) so i have explanation :-)

Recently I read an interesting article about the fact that many of the kids deliberately lying about own age to be able to register with the social networking site.

In Poland, in order to register with the social networking site must be at least 16 years old, and yet most kids younger than 13 years has an account on these sites, so it is the law remain only on paper.

Hello,

I never needed to do it because I was already too old when Internet was created.
(In other way and other words: maybe I would've have done it, I don't know - just out of curiosity?)

But I didn't know about those laws you're telling us about. I thought it was a private thing, a private rule made by each website's owner.

When I registered for Facebook I placed a fake DoB. I had forgotten that I was 13 and therefore didn't need to.

I never needed to, but my kids did. I didn't mind because I don't see anything wrong with those sites. I think it's pretty much an unenforcable rule which is put in place to prevent the company from having legal repercussions from kids using their sites. I imagine if they were really serious about it they would require a social security number or something that they could use to check it out.

I don't see a problem with doing it.
