Apparently the "polls are wrong, Democratic voters won't turn out" mantra wasn't just the delusion of DIck Morris, Romney camp insiders actually believed it. And got their butts kicked accordingly.

Ive always thought the "shellshocked" story was a little suspect. I see some liberal sites are doubting it now too.

Losing campaigns have to lie no matter the numbers. They need to exaggerate their chances to even have a chance or their demoralized base won't show up and the money will dry up. After they've lied and a loss arrives anyway what should they say? Ok, we lied? Or, gee, we sure got that wrong, my bad? Romney is going with option 2.

I find it hard to believe that a guy who made $250 million is dumb. A liar? Yeah, that I believe.

History is filled with accomplished men & women in one field (i.e. business) f*cking up miserably in another (i.e. politics).

Supposedly, Karl Rove is the one person who is mostly responsible for mismanaging the GOP campaign.

That's like saying that one little chimp is the one who is mostly responsible for the behavior of a cage full of poo-flinging monkeys.

I know, you'd almost forget that in the time of the worst economic crisis in over 70 years that Obama ran a campaign of racism, freebies and class warfare.

The really sad part is that people bit. It just shows you how stupid 50%+1 of the American electorate has become.

That's very charming and folksy and all but history is not written by your fiat.

I'm not writing history, I'm simply opining.

If the right doesn't knock it off they will get their class warfare. Bunch of a**holes.

Obama's guilty of racism and class warfare? Really? Really?
It was the Republicans who had written off the whole black and Latino part of the electorate, and figured they were going to ride to the White House on a white tide. Then there's the voter suppression schemes specifically targeting minorities. Sounds pretty racist to me.
And class warfare? It was Romney who had assured his billionaire friends that he had no plan to represent almost fifty percent of the American public because they were too poor, and needed help. That, and how Romney's running mate was a devotee of Ayn Rand, and her heartless disregard for those without - a philosophy in vogue among modern conservatives. How was Obama guilty of class warfare? For putting the blame for the disastrous collapse of the economy on Wall street billionaires and their government lap dogs pushing supply side economics? I fail to see how he's wrong on that point.

What amazes me was how self-deluded the Republicans were. They were their own worst enemies. Oh, well; like the old adage goes: those whom the gods destroy, they first make mad.

That's true. And Romney was a very poor politician. But I just find it a stretch to think that a professional campaign would ignore all outside numbers and have total confidence in their own outlier polls. It's possible though. But so is the idea that they are just lying now to avoid admitting they were lying earlier

Every Republican since 1992 has run to PA at the last minute and claimed they were going to win it. None did. It's to project confidence. No one admits they are losing.

Very true and very sad. The Republican did not have the Mandate of Heaven (as the Chinese philosophers would say). In order to succeed the Republicans must wake up and offer something of value to the electorate. It is the only way to keep the U.S. out of the clutches of the pinko stinko collectivist neo-fascist liberals permanently. A better way must be formulated and offered. Otherwise this country is going down the drain lead by the ultra left.

In this case, the gods made them stupid. My real gripe against the Republicans is that they have been hijacked by Christian fundies. A stupider lot cannot be found on god's good earth. Anyone who believes the Earth is less than 10,000 old really should do the rest of us a favor and not vote. Likewise anyone who believes in angels and miracles.
