It is my bona fide opinion that the article to which I have just been linked was deficient of a crucial component of pseudo-intellectualism. Namely, using words which are extraordinarily elongated, ceremonialistic, grody, or even foreign. Malheureusment, verbosity does not indicate intelligence, and these words are often deployed in an erroneous context. I believe Kafka once said "brevity is the soul of wit".

They ommitted it on purpose to see if anybody would notice. How Kafkaesque. And "brevity is the soul of wit" is a Shakespeare quote.

(I'm 2 for 5. I couldn't figure out how to sneak my love of jazz* in there. Or God. )

*I actually do love jazz. But so help me God ( ) I don't love Thelonius Monk. It's not melodious enough for me.

Admittedly I'm guilty of #3, a lot. I'm a grammar nazi, it comes with the territory.

But what if you actually, genuinely like jazz?

Lols. Some of those points are right, some were stupid. All in all a very personal, subjective truth portrayed narrow-mindedly with blunt reasoning. There's nothing new in that hipster intellectuals are fake. It's a known urban phenomenon.

Maybe the article should be taken for what it is: Tongue in-cheek satire rather than a psychological report.

I hate tongue-in-cheek satire. But it should maybe be emphasized and pointed out, yes.

Gladstone really does seem to hate clear statements and positions when it comes to the existence of God. Except "Nobody nows! How dare someone offer an argued position!" - that, he seems clear on.

I think this whole discussion is Kafkaesque.
There, I made use of the word "Kafkaesque" and sounded ignorant!

I'm glad you posted the second page first - I never would have gotten past the attractive lady otherwise.

I do #3. It's not because I'm trying to be a smartarse though, it's just that one of the few ways I can contribute anything to a conversation is to share some of the useless information my head is full of.

I'm severely lacking in wit and acknowledge that as an established fact of my life. I've had an extended vocabulary most of my life, probably got TOO much positive attention from my high school English teachers, and made the mistake of trying too hard to alter this about myself in the first couple of years of my teaching career. Since giving up on my classroom career, I've made a point of just being myself, minimizing my role in vis-a-vis conversation, and sharing where it is appropriate. I figure if anyone can forgive my verbosity or "roll with it," it's WP, and I find participating in the PPR discussions to be richly rewarding.

I have another one...

Saying "ad hominem" a lot... especially when someone just finished pointing out that you are in fact stupid.
