NRA goes dark.

Since the Newtown, Connecticut shooting, the NRA has simply disappeared from the Internet.
What's going on here? I thought they would be up in arms (no pun intended) about the calls for a new Assault Weapons Ban.

it might be that they (rightgully so) dont want to bring politics into the discussion yet, others should take a clue from them if tthat is the case.

Not surprising, the original gun control advocates were the KKK.
Be fun to see them try it again, though. I've got my mags loaded.
Realistically, I agree with Oodain; the NRA is demonstrating significantly more class than anti-rights groups and individuals.

The KKK were the original gun control advocates? Say again? The Klan in fact defied federal law during reconstruction, and stored up arms to fight so called carpet baggers, union troops, and to suppress black freedmen.

That's the federal info. NYS's gun control laws are rooted in the Sullivan Act, which is thought to have been passed partially as a means of restricting gun ownership to "approved" races, in this case excluding italians and other immigrants.

Yes, of course racists didn't want blacks and other minorities to own firearms.
But on the reverse side, any infringement on the right to bear arms for whites was vehemently fought. On top of that, not only was the Klan involved in this hypocritical way of thinking, but so were rifle clubs springing up around the south - which would become the NRA.

After being granted a charter by the state of New York on November 17, 1871, the NRA was founded. Civil War Gen. Ambrose Burnside, who was also the former governor of Rhode Island and a U.S. Senator, became the fledgling NRA's first president.
Bingo.
Seriously Bill, the narrative you've been fed is so blatantly wrong that it's actually startling.

Thank you for the correction. But the fact remains, gun clubs in the south during reconstruction were just as guilty of suppressing gun ownership among blacks while advocating arming white supremacists as the Klan was.

Edit: I'll retract that snippy comment because of your graciousness.
Instead, I'll point out that southern politics in the post-war period was dominated by Democrats of the same party that fought to defend slavery. Gun ranges in those regions were no doubt similarly dominated.
Though the inability of blacks to legally own firearms in those states probably made range rules a non-issue.

I got an email from the NRA today promoting their business alliance activities. I can't imagine Chris Cox,especially, lying down and letting this happen willfully. I'm assuming it's the NRA's turn to "work under the radar" now.

Do your homework. The NRA was founded by Union officers.

That's wonderful, but we're talking about the NRA here, not random "gun clubs."
Anyway, I don't like the NRA, as they're just a gun manufacturer lobby, and basically all the gun control in US is done to "create jobs" by silliness like 922r compliance. Also, the GCA of 1968 was pushed by Walther, to get rid of competition from other Euro pistols in USA, as Walther were the only people with guns with loaded chamber indicators and whatnot. This also created jobs in America with stupid Jennings/Bryco/etc "Saturday Night Special" pistols.

If you read the above comments, you'll find I already apologized for my error. I simply misremembered something I had read about southern gun clubs Post-Civil War.
