Australia was actually rooting (pardon the pun ) for Obama

Australia is politically more right-wing than Canada and New Zealand but not as much as the USA. I mean, there's even a national health care service.

In a really MANLY nation like the USA, health care is the leading cause of bankrupcy.

yes, but you americans broke your health care system, and you broke your financial system, and you're not getting another one until you get it fixed, or find a replacement.

i hear france and canada are doing well, though you might have to suffer a fair bit more before you have the gall to ask canada for help.

as for the original poster, queensland will take you and your hyper-sensitive republicanism, it's a great place for that. if you can ignore the whole monarch business, and the option of tea over coffee (you can get used to it), the cane toad problem, and the snakes, and the fact that driving 200 miles will only take you to the next town, not the next state. it's a nice place to live, but, it's a bit like florida.

perhaps robina, it's a 20 minute drive from the gold coast, 30 minutes form brisbane city, and has a golf course, mall and retirement townhouses spread over the rest of the land.

google earth/google maps would be indicative.

i live in manly. yes, there's beefcake* everywhere, but there's also a lot of socialism here too. best of both worlds. i.e. sand, sun, beer and wifi.

as for freedom, it's overrated.

nobody enjoys any kind of freedom in it's original sense, it's just political sophistry. real freedom is anarchy, lawlessness, unruly behaviour, independence from government and all forms of control, etc.

pure chaos, and loss.

what you want, is guided freedom. guided democracy. leashed freedom. the kind of freedom a housebound pet enjoys all the more, because the restrictions emphasise the sensation of being free without the consequences, i.e. the despair and unfamiliarity of a world undone, or the loss of self, of identity. that's the bad freedom.

what you want is inconsequential liberty, with the promise of that reset button at the end to clear the slate for another day.
the kind of freedom that homer simpson has. the problem being, you can only have one homer simpson. or the system breaks quite badly.

But there is still freedom, which at least Homer is ok with!

Or, come to think of it, why not South Africa? If they could somehow bring back apartheid, it would be perfect.

There's a big controversy over Obama's COLB and him being born in Africa instead of Hawaii.

Poor Ragtime. But, a lot of people in Texas must consider President Obama to be the worst nightmare to visit them since Reconstruction.

But, if we cede Texas to China (as a growing number of people are suggesting), then no-one from Texas will have to move anywhere.

And, that Great Wall that they started construction on the Mexican border, they can just keep on building it until Texas becomes completely encircled.

Australia is looking better to be by the minute.
