I want to throw up. I just read an article about a 15-year-old girl who committed suicide after being sexually harassed, stalked, abused and bullied by people on line.

I blame personal computers!

If it weren't for personal computers, this poor girl would still be alive!

Furthermore, there are people walking around in public right now with net-connected computers concealed in their pockets!

In fact, just yesterday I saw someone whip out one of these concealed weapons from her purse and use it to send an insulting message to her ex-boyfriend, and then she bragged about it while the weapon was still warm!! !

When will Congress pull its collective head out of its collective wrecked'em and do something to STOP THIS MADNESS?! !

Ban all network-connected pocket devices, and there will be no more children dying from the abuse these concealed weapons cause!

Still, there is some truth to the idea that banning the devices, tools, and weapons used in a heinous crime will not stop other heinous crimes from happening.

People who are determined to hurt and kill others will find a way; and if each weapon used in a violent crime is banned, eventually anything that can be used to harm another person will either be banned or heavily restricted in some way.

Can you imagine a world in which you would have to be licensed to connect to the Internet? Where your personal computer would be registered with some government agency? Where if you had ever written a nasty-gram to someone, you could be refused the right to own or carry a net-ready computer or mobile phone? Where a background check that turned up any acts of hostility on your part could be used as sufficient and just cause to refuse you the right to bear automation?

Is this satire?

I could see that actually. It would end child pornography, financial theft, off-school bullying, ; enhance protect the young from porn, violence, swearing and other mature content amongst other good things.

I mean there is no complete freedom of speech at present - how many celebrities and rich people sue each other and tabloids for Libel or Slander, depending on the context. Recently in the UK there have been twitter obscenity cases which could have led to further witch hunt (sedition) cases, all over the freedom of speech.

I mean everyone talks about freedom this and freedom that, but keep ignoring the fundamental human right:

Everyone has the right to life.

The best way to deal with cyberbullies, FYI, is to enlist the help of a hacker or few. But detonating an EMP at their house also works.

Seriously, though, we already have laws in place for dealing with people making libellous accusations about people, be it online or in print.

No it wouldn't. It would just drive it even further underground. The sophisticated people would still be able to do all those things you mentioned.

My truck was blown over by a wind storm in 2010.

Maybe we need to feed power to all those wind farms to make them turn as giant fans instead of passively turn from the wind.

Hell maybe we could do something about global warming by burning more coal to turn blowing windfarms and cool down the planet.

Why just blame guns for violent death?

Let's blame the lead mines for producing the material that makes the bullets that kill people, instead of the people that load those bullets into guns and then use those guns to force the lead into and through the bodies of innocent victims?

I mean, lead is considered "Hazardous Material" anyway, right?

Seriously, as long as guns are being blamed for violent deaths, lets find as many other things to blame except the shooters for those violent deaths.
