This kind of things is becoming more and more popular. Personally, I think it's a terrible thing and here's why.

Say you want something from someone else, sometimes you HAVE to ask for it, or they wont know you want it. Whether it's small or big, people aren't always just going to give something to you, or ask you if you want it.
And sometimes you have to demand things, otherwise you may appear to be a push over and people will just ignore what you want. Same goes for "Just let it be."

There are plenty of things that I want but I don't have a lot of those things. Why? Because I haven't worked hard enough. If things were going to happen based on my desire, they'd have happened by now. Of course, I know people can turn around and say "well, that's not what you were supposed to do with your life" which would mean we have no free will at all and everything is meaningless. Lucky for me, I don't believe that to be true, either.

And isn't it all just a bit too convenient that "it will happen, the way you want things to be"? Sounds like a way to make people happy about not having to try their hardest.
What about demanding certain rights? Like fighting for gay right, or women's rights. Should those people not have demanded to be treated equally? Should they never stand up for themselves?

Whether you believe in fate, God or whatever, thinking, hoping, praying, none of that will get you anywhere. This is why it annoys me when people thank God after a Doctor saves a life. Or Jesus for food instead of the farmers that worked all day and got a crappy price for it so places like Coles can sell it over priced.
The point is, people should believe in THEMSELVES and acknowledge who actually got you that far, whether it's yourself, a friend, your family, whatever.
Whatever happened to messages about being positive, believing in yourself and working hard? I really hope the next generation doesn't grow up to have no desire to do anything and think that everything they want will just fall into their lap without actually going after their goals and instead just accepting whatever comes their way as "meant to be", because that's exactly what they're being taught by more and more people.

Did the Empire State building just happen or come about?

The sentiment expressed above is pure balderdash.

I'm not sure if the majority my generation wants to do anything when they graduate.

Some (?) people want too believe that the world is just, fair, and that you don't really need to put any effort into anything. Yeah, not a recipe for success.

I think ASD literalness is sometimes.... that maybe it's not literalness, but rather an inability to do doublethink. I.e. "if something is meant to be it will happen by itself" and "if I don't go to work I'll eventually end up homeless and that would really suck" both being in your mind at the same time.

Or, maybe, it's like a in a movie that I like (The Tailor of Panama) where the protagonist explains that in prison you learn to lie, because the lie/story is so much better than how things really are (and that's the only good thing you have, so there's appeal in it, even if you know it's not really true).
