Take a look at this. 22 US states (21 + DC) currently have laws against workplace discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and/or gender identity.

Now, there appears to be a pattern her... can't quite put my finger on it...

... oh, silly me... :D

First of all, every state with LGBT anti-discrimination laws voted Democrat in the 2012 election. And conversely, none of the states that voted Republican in 2012 have LGBT anti-discrimination laws.

What is also interesting is that Obama generally only won by a small margin (50-52 %) in 4 of the 5 Blue states without LGBT anti-discrimination laws (Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Florida).

So, one can correctly predict the party preference of 45 out of 50 US states (+DC) simply by knowing if they have LGBT anti-discrimination laws or not.

Nah, just a coincidence, I guess...

I live in europe and you didnt tell me anything new. Whats your point? That liberals are more likely to be liberal, while conservatives are more likely to be conservative?

I agree - that's not exactly a revelation.
The sarcasm in GGPViper's post kind of implies he's telling us a truth that some of us don't want to hear.
Perhaps his real intention was just to dazzle us with his use of pictures and statistics.

One might likewise predict that the federal Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) being debated by the US Congress won't stand a chance in passing until the Democrats have control of both houses and the presidency. That's how you'll get non-discrimination legislation in all 50 US states, methinks. Unless SCOTUS intervenes, or the Republicans finally start believing that opposing such legislation might actually hurt their chances of winning future elections.

In Australia, each state and territory passed its own anti-discrimination laws, before the federal government passed one earlier this year for LGBTI (yep, intersex status was specifically mentioned). Australia's a bit different in that it doesn't have a Bill of Rights that outlines specific protected rights. They have to be introduced in individual pieces of legislation.
