I am thinking about people tobacco smokers. I don't like them.

I generally do not like smokers, but my mom and my older brother smoke cigarettes, but they are adults. But underage kids 13-15 years old smoking cigarettes, they think theat if they will light a cigarette and throw a few curses that they are as adults, I was so pissed off

I don't think badly of smokers. There are people I love (friends and family members) who smoke. But, I detest the act of smoking. I'm generally a very liberal person, but when another person's freedom to smoke conflicts with my ability to breath relatively clean air, then I think my right should trump theirs. If they want to smoke, that's fine, but I would much prefer that they did it somewhere that doesn't impose risk of harm, to me or my child. Unfortunately, there aren't too many smokers who see it that way.

it causes an unpleasant smell that sticks to the clothes which follows you everywhere and that makes some people leave your company or want to.

I probably would smoke to cope with my schizophreanic symptoms. Because of lifelong asthma I can never had a chance to take it up though. I grew up in an environment where smoking was unheard of in family and close acquaintances; it was easy to see it as disgusting. When I was in a mental hospital as a teen I knew a girl who had been assaulted, who became irritable because she wasn't allowed to; and was surprised another young girl there who came from a very dysfunctional home smoked. I didn't get it back then. I see it now some people get into the habit for more than just frivolous reasons.

I smoke (even though I hate it), but never inside. Ever. I also stay away from building entrances/exits and try to keep the smoke away from people walking by as best I can. And I never ever toss a butt on the ground (which is something that really pisses me off when I see it).
I generally dislike many smokers for precisely those reasons. While it isn't all smokers, it is a very large number of them.

If only I wasn't addicted . . .

When I was in a mental hospital as a teen you could smoke.That was obviously wrong,because lots of kids that came in as non smokers left as smokers.We also could drink all the coffee we wanted,and it wasn't decaf.Not really a bright idea.Picture One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest but as an adolescent ward.All we had to do was smoke.
We could smoke at school also,there was a smoking hole.It wasn't just cigarettes though. :wink:

I never smoke where it might annoy people and I dispose of my dimps like a considerate person. I am going to quit again in the near future.

I have a history of psychosis (not schizophrenia, per se) but I won't use that as an excuse. It's just a factor in why I took it up (the weight gain caused by the medication I used to be on is another factor.)

At least 70% of the people I know and see on a daily basis are smokers, so I can hardly afford to think bad of them in general ;) many of them don't deserve that at all.
but yeah, I know what you mean... 13 year olds smoking to look cool is a horrible and sad thing.

I get why people smoke. I get why people can't stop smoking;
everyone knows what it's like to be addicted so something.
How ever, what I'll never fully understand is why people start to smoke.
Because really, I've never seen anyone who enjoyed their first cigarette. So not only is it an addiction,
it's an addiction you have to force onto yourself for it to actually become pleasant!

Everyone wants to fit in, hell, I think most of us know that too well.
Everyone will probably have their first drink because of that, but smoking is a whole different story;
It's sad to see people willingly risk their health, while others don't have a choice.

I don't find it disgusting, I even like the smell, but at the same time it's an instant turn-off for me.

I have some health issues as it is, so I haven't smoked a single cigarette in my life, despite continiously being offered one.
Therefore I can only judge from what I've seen, not from experience.

They're just people like anyone else, if you go around judging the poor life decisions of everyone else then you wouldn't have any other time in the day. I don't mind the smell and a cigarette or two can help me relax on occasion but I don't make a habit of it.

I used to be very judgemental around smokers. My granddad smoked heavily for about 40 years before my birth and only gave up to see me grow up more. He had severe respiratory problems (particularly emphysema- look it up), so struggled with conversations, and had to spend much of his time in his room on a ventilator. In the last year of his life he was constantly in and out of hospital in attempts to keep him breathing.

I think smoking is foul, and stupid, but I don't hold my breath around smokers or tell them to stop or anything. I don't think I could marry a smoker and I'll certainly never smoke myself, but I don't mind smokers as friends.

Having a strong oppositional streak in me, I get really annoyed at the anti-smoking attitude. So as a big F-U to that, I light up another. Peoples hatred of smokers actually makes me smoke MORE. I know it's not logical, but addiction isn't very logical, it's something that has it's roots on a very primal level, circumventing the rational mind. Any hostility to my addiction is met with a response of greater hostility.

I was actually one of the first to start in my peer group. I started at 11. 11 year olds are not very wise. I started because it gave me a little "buzz". That only lasted for a couple of years. By the time I was 13, I smoked a pack a day and no longer got that buzz. But I was hooked by then. Which snowballed until I got up to 3 packs a day when I was 19, and I have been at that level since then (I'm 43 now).

Frankly, I don't think I can ever quit. I lack the self discipline, and I go completely insane after about 12 hours without a cigarette. Even the thought of quitting upsets me. I'm trapped and there is no way out.
