Look at what Eric Woodard says. What he is saying is to accept things as they are in the workplace. Basically, what it means is to conform and capitulate without question. This doesn't just apply to just the workplace itself. This applies to different facets of society. It means one is to accept the status quo without question or challenge. One is not allowed to question or challenge the social order of today in anyway, shape or form. I have been told by this by many people including but not limited to Jim Miller at SolitaryRoad.com, and even some of the Aspies on here. We are to accept that life is not fair without question, challenge or fail.

If we are to accept these things w/o question would we have had the civil rights movement?

Should the colonists have not even have had the American Revolution and kowtowed to taxation without representation?

By this logic no one should resist Nazi Germany, is this correct?

This is I perceive today.

I´ll think the saying will be known in some form as well in english, but to translate it freely from german:

Give me the patience to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things that I can change,
and the wisdom and knowledge to decide which situations actually occurs.

And workplace orders, which are a social construct, is as the name tells us something constructed, that can be influenced. So I´d see no reason, why things that have been constructed and influenced by others, should not as well be done so by me.

Thank you, Schneekugel - that is exactly what I was also thinking with regard to this topic.

The more commonly familiar English is:

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,

The courage to change the things I can,

And the wisdom to know the difference.

In the above, the use of the word "serenity" is a bit poetic. I think your translation to "patience" is much better :)

I am pretty good at accepting things, and at mustering some courage to change the things I can. It is the "wisdom to know the difference" that often confuses me and I go wrong ;)

This is the right wing tyrannical ideology that has been strangling our societies for the past 35 years or so.

Unfortunately, this has been the norm for all of recorded history (with a few notable exceptions). Those who stood up for change by going against the flow rarely came to a good end.

This has been going on for 3000 years. Psychology and religions both have always exercised a class interest in inventing a nonsensical moral virtue or nobility in passivity and in being against revenge and righting of wrongs. New Age babble has long been full of jibes at "bitterness", meaning by it any sense of moral anger against anything.

It isn't just right wing tyrannical ideology. It is literally a part of the mainstream culture. The assumption that you and others have is that government, employers, right wingers, etc have pulled the wool over the American People's eyes. The American people believe this stuff as well and anyone can pursue the American Dream and succeed. A lot of people see no problem with the massive income inequality that exists today. A lot of people today believe in our inalienable rights to a strict level without scrutiny and examination.

A lot of people care more about Kim Kardashian's ass than any real reform or change. There is no questioning or examination of our ideals whatsoever. Most people are following a narrative that was set into motion about 400-500 years ago and are going by unconscious assumptions that are a part of their Cultural Programming. The thing is if those in OWS, Noam Chomsky and others want real change then we would need a new people.

Even Schneekugel and Marky quoted the Serenity Prayer. We can't change America, its' ideals and get others to examine them to see if we've gone in a faulty direction. No examination will take place. Look at 9/11, there was no self-reflection to even determine what policies we had to bring this on ourselves. All people look at is that it was a form of murder and genocide and that is it and the reason this was done was the terrorists hate us and are envious of us.

We are living in a really stagnant period at the moment when it comes to workplace culture. All companies are the same. I have worked for many different ones and I got so bored with the 'corporate personality' that I was often sick. The workplace is full of non thinking people who can only follow the order. And it is those people that recruiters are seeking and selecting. So they are actively ensuring that the workplace never changes.

I don't know how many times I have 'scared' my bosses and colleagues by having the nerve to speak against them and say something that upsets the nice little equilibrium they have.

And yes I agree with you - We have the vote because of people who would not accept the way things were, we also have paid holidays, working regulations, the right to be a member of a union, the right to be represented in parliament (although that is hardly happening in reality). None of these things came about by people who just accepted the unfairness of the world.

I admire those few people who go out and protest from time to time, even if nothing changes because of it.

I am afraid you're right my friend. Where would all the fun be if one did not stand up? lol

I keep trying to come up with a response to this thread.
I agree, almost all people do just go along with the flow.
Mainly because of fear. Fear of the certain repercussions of resistance.
Fear that the action taken will have little to no effect.

Despite all that some just can't live bowing down and submitting.
Even if it has little to no effect.

Sometimes one has to say 'no' just because they can, just to assert their own sovereign spirit.
We cannot let the individual die out for the sake of the group. The group depends on the strength of the individual.
A group built out of weak individuals is a weak group.

that is the reason as to why im going to rebel and be left out because although society does not understand me i understand society
and it is through my understanding of society which has enabled me to fight back against the corruption and injustice i see

ever since i got diagnosed i've wondered how much neurotypicality is to blame.

I think if there was a country with an autistic majority, it would either be radical left or right.

Personally, I think this kind of theoretical country would be radically isolationist.

This is exactly accurate, too many people just seem to accept what they can't change. I on the other hand tend to openly complain and criticise the wrongs I see going on, even when I can't change them. Sure I'm seen as a "rebel" for it now and then. But if I don't do it, how can I expect others to follow suit?

I complain about the general job market all the time in particular, but also a lot of other aspects of modern day society. The one rule I have for myself though is that for every complaint I openly make about anything, I try to pair it with a suggestion for how I think it could be better. I figure if I can't think of a way that something could potentially be made better, any criticism I have about it won't really hold much weight. And it kind of bothers me when others complain a lot without making any constructive suggestions, because then it just seems like whining.

Also, just because I think a lot of stuff in society is inefficient, corrupt, and stupid doesn't mean I don't still participate in it myself. I recognize that sometimes doing things society's way is unfortunately required in order to get by in life. So I play the game, but that doesn't stop me from complaining about it while I play it.

If you disagree with the "acceptance of things as they are" philosophy, look at the "working to make things better" philosophy that is part of the American mythos. The latter caused a lot of damage.
