It would depend on the manner with which you believe in God.

For example, if you believe God sees you as someone very special (sort of like a chosen one), then I would say this is a delusion.

If, on the other hand, God is just something you see as a divine representative of hope in this world, and nothing more, then it's not a delusion.

Instead of calling people who believe a certain way delusional let's look at the facts. I am not going to call people names for disagreeing with me but I am going to state the reasons why I believe in God. First I came to the realization that there was a creator of the universe because everything that begins to exist has a cause. Most scientists now support the idea that time, space, and matter began with the Big Bang. Therefore the universe had to have a cause that was outside of time, space, and matter. An uncaused first cause. Since the cause was outside of time it would not have a beginning. http://christiananswers.net/q-aig/aig-c039.html

Now the second reason is why I believe in the God of the Christian Bible. I had a personal encounter with the Holy Spirit. Now people will say I am delusional after they read my testimony but I am going to share it anyways:
I have struggled several years with anxiety and I am also a pessimistic person. My last year of high school I really struggled academically, I was stressed out about my post-college plans, I was rejected by a girl I like, and I had conflicts with my friends. Although none of these were major when combined with my anxiety caused me to go into what seemed like a never-ending cycle of depression. For several months I was down in the dumps.

When February of that year came along I was just waiting until the end of the school year not knowing whether or not I would ever get out of my depression but hopeful that when I graduated from high school the situation changed. That month my whole life changed. I went to a Christian Winter Conference which my parents had signed me up for. The preacher spoke about the love of God and of Jesus. After he had his sermon. He started to lay hands on people and pray for them. When he laid hands on me and prayed for me. He prayed for me that I would feel the love of God. As he was praying for me I felt this weird feeling in my spine and felt the presence of the Holy Spirit come upon me. I felt God communicating his love for me.

God bless.

I get this same feeling when I'm watching a very emotional movie/scene. It does not mean it's from God.

Also, the Big Bang does not indicate that there must be some God.

People interpret the word god very broadly so that's hard to answer.

Then what caused it? Either time, space and matter are infinite with no beginning or something outside of space and time caused it, which would be a god by all practical definitions.

There are things that are greater than our understanding and some people call this God. I do find concepts of him drawn in human form to be amusing. We can't even begin to understand God.

I don't understand why people cannot get by believing outlandish things. They get called delusional unless it happens to be about God. People have believed in God for so long and it's always seemed bizarre and outlandish. Why is it they get to believe in that while, at the same time, are regarded as perfectly sane, but I can't be free to believe what I want? I would be called delusional.

Sometimes when people talk about God I think, Oh No, how can they believe that? Then I start to say something, but I just remind myself that I don't really care if anyone believes in him or why or to what extent. It's a Constitutional right.

What does bother me is religion taught as science, but some atheists are as corrupting of science with atheism as Christians are with God. I wish we could just separate it all from science and let everybody believe what they want in peace.

I find the title of this thread very offensive.

Not really; most definitions of gods include not only supernatural elements, but some sort of conscious volition or even anthropomorphism. A trigger for the big bang would not need either factor.

Not true. It could just as easily be a physical cause that we simply can't observe. It's as easy to imagine real, physical causes as it is to imagine a magical being.

And given all of our observations thus far have been real things, or real interactions, it seems more likely to me that whatever our Universe is, it is also based on some real ... "thing!" Some physical phenomenon of some kind that we will never have the opportunity to observe--unless we're in a Russian Nested Doll type situation, of course.

For instance, we can't see black holes; we can only observe things around them. And those observations overwhelmingly support the notion that black holes are things; they're real. Predictions were made based on a collection of equations, and our observations match those predictions! Meaning even the things we can't see appear to be "things;" various collections of energy-matter in varied states.

Some other examples, like The Northern Lights, earthquakes, typhoons, everything we used to think was magic has turned out to be real, and explainable. And things we couldn't imagine, even those have turned out to be real! (quasars, rogue planets/suns, Galaxies, heck even the stars themselves turned out to be far-distant suns! Ten thousand years ago who'd have imagined that one? When we look even more closely it turns out that most of the stars are actually pairs or sets of multiple stars.

That's just my reasoning on the matter of "who made the big bang?" Your mileage may vary.
