Socialist Party USA: 2013-2015 National Platform

• We demand the immediate withdrawal of the United States from the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA), and oppose the creation of a widened Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA).

What? I thought they cared about the "worker" ? They must realize that free trade benefits the Socialist poor workers in Mexico and Central America ?

Or do they only care about themselves ?

depends what you mean by 'benefit'?

deregulation and 'free markets' invariably ends up in worker exploitation, virtual slave wages and poor working conditions.

There is innumerable cases of this not only in Mexico but also in South East Asia and Africa as empirical evidence.

What socialists want for these countries is for workers to collectively seize the means of control in their own countries so that they can attribute themselves with dignified jobs with decent terms and pay.

I don't see any hypocrisy here.

Arise ye starvelings [or workers] from your slumbers
Arise ye criminals of want
For reason in revolt now thunders
and at last ends the age of cant.
Now away with all your superstitions
Servile masses arise, arise!
We'll change forthwith [or henceforth] the old conditions
And spurn the dust to win the prize.

CHORUS

Then come comrades rally
And the last fight let us face
The Internationale
Unites the human race. (repeat).

We peasants, artisans and others,
Enrolled amongst the sons of toil
Let's claim the earth henceforth for brothers
Drive the indolent from the soil.
On our flesh for too long has fed the raven
We've too long been the vultures prey.
But now farewell to spirit craven
The dawn brings in a brighter day.

The people's flag is deepest red,
It shrouded oft our martyred dead,
And ere their limbs grew stiff and cold,
Their hearts' blood dyed its ev'ry fold.

Then raise the scarlet standard high.
Within its shade we'll live and die,
Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer,
We'll keep the red flag flying here.

Look 'round, the Frenchman loves its blaze,
The sturdy German chants its praise,
In Moscow's vaults its hymns are sung
Chicago swells the surging throng.

Then raise the scarlet standard high.
Within its shade we'll live and die,
Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer,
We'll keep the red flag flying here.

It waved above our infant might,
When all ahead seemed dark as night;
It witnessed many a deed and vow,
We must not change its colour now.

Then raise the scarlet standard high.
Within its shade we'll live and die,
Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer,
We'll keep the red flag flying here.

It well recalls the triumphs past,
It gives the hope of peace at last;
The banner bright, the symbol plain,
Of human right and human gain.

Then raise the scarlet standard high.
Within its shade we'll live and die,
Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer,
We'll keep the red flag flying here.

It suits today the weak and base,
Whose minds are fixed on pelf and place
To cringe before the rich man's frown,
And haul the sacred emblem down.

Then raise the scarlet standard high.
Within its shade we'll live and die,
Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer,
We'll keep the red flag flying here.

With heads uncovered swear we all
To bear it onward till we fall;
Come dungeons dark or gallows grim,
This song shall be our parting hymn.

Then raise the scarlet standard high.
Within its shade we'll live and die,
Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer,
We'll keep the red flag flying here.

I'd expect American socialists to be looking out for the interests of American workers first. I see nothing wrong with their motivations. Besides, Mexican and South American socialists are probably every bit as nationalistic. Throws a wrench into the right's assertion that the far left is incapable of patriotism.

I don't believe anyone forces these people to do these job ?

So are you arguing these people are better off without the jobs ? No job is better than working a job with "worker exploitation, virtual slave wages and poor working conditions" ?

Funny.

However, I suspect that it is not "patriotism" that they are looking out for. They are looking out for own self-interests.

They don't want to lose their jobs, or take lower pay.

I've never heard a more scathing indictment of socialists.

"They don't want to lose their jobs, or take lower pay."

Bastards!

The only reason those agreements came into practice was to use Mexico and South America as sweatshop labor. Now East Asia and India have gleefully filled those roles. Every one of these free trade agreements is designed to empower plutocrats. No more, no less.

So, you agree that their true objective of socialists is not to help workers, but instead selfishly think of their own self-interest?

That is always been my problem with socialism.

"Workers of the world Unite" means "Screw workers in foreign nations who are poorer, and might take our jobs and lower our pay".

So you argue that these people are better off with no job? Despite the Pew research that many millions of people have been lifted out of poverty ?

How is looking out for good paying jobs in your own country not patriotic?

Unless you're a child laborer/prison laborer/slave, naturally. Not sure why you're assuming having a job means you get paid for it.

But hey, things are better in China. You can move into a nice apartment with your Foxconn wages, and that sounds pretty ni

@OP most so called socialist groups are in reality reformist capatalists, they think capitalism can exist in contradiction of itself. they believe they canpressure the union movements and previously leftist maintstream parties back on course. The course the want is a hybrid social democracy. What they do not seem to understand are the reasons why social democracy came into being and why it has been disolved.

Essentially social democracy was the ruling elites way of preventing major social unheavels after WW2. Prior to the war the working class had suffered 10 years of deprresion, they were now a victorious, trained army and were determined not to return to their pre war status. In an unprecedented move the victorious UK Prime Minister was thrown out of office in a landslide. The labour Pary and the elites had no choice but to create major improvements in the lives of the masses.

As the threat of inssurection dwindled these refroms were gradually erroded and today the word reform has completey changed its meaning. Where it once meant immprovements in the lifes of the working class it now means repeal of those working class gains.

What these pseudo left groups fail to comprehend is the role the unions and so called left parties such as the Labour party and Democrats have played in the repeal process. They do not have an international socialist agenda, instead they are rooted in the nation state system and actively support the major capitalist parties.

What you see as hypocrisy is in fact the complete and utter degradation of the US Socialist Party. What has happened to the soicalist movement under the asupices of Stalinism was accurately predicted by Leon Trotsky

No 'force' in the literal meaning is required if the local government refuses to deal with conditions meaning that the workers have no choice but to accept exploitative conditions or starve to death.

no, i am arguing that these people would be better off in control of their own workplace where they can dictate their own narrative for their working conditions rather than some foreign parasite.

Socialists of the non-reformist persuasion act by the axiom "Think globally, act locally".

Nationalism creates the conditioning for divide and conquering.
