He may be trying to be ironic just to make a statement, but even then I still think he's being incredibly hypocritical. For the record, I generally consider myself a liberal, and I do believe in gun control to a degree (mainly just keeping guns out of the hands of people too irresponsible to use them), but I'm not anti-gun. I'm also not in favor of shooting people either, self-defense exempted.
Some people may find *my* views to be hypocritical, but when you look at them from a Canadian perspective, they make sense; we like to hunt wild game and shoot targets, but we're not fond of turning our guns on one another, and we're also not into the "everybody needs to have a gun" mentality. We have lower rates of gun violence than the US, but we still have a pretty high rate of gun ownership among developed countries.

there be some super pro gun Canadians, they have you tube channels
I don't know many or anyone who thinks everyone should have guns. I honestly think that's just a made up stereotype by the anti guns. lots think anyone should be allowed to have one.
I could almost live in Canada, but sadly you have gun permits and months of waiting to buy them. Shame too cause your women are nicer and less shallow.
as to the thread there's a lot of anti gun people who make violent threats against pro gun people. There was a study done that found people who don't think their neighbor should have a gun often is cause they have violent thoughts and assume that everyone does. now how true that is I don't know. another study says evil can be found via a brain scan. It is an interesting theory though. I'm a non violent gun owner, I have seen and gotten violent threats from the anti gun people though. This is probably just a fact that there's violent people on both sides, but its funny when it comes from supposedly peaceful non violent people.
I find the idea of causing harm onto a life to be unpleasant.
Canada has such a small and spread out population, while the USA population is huge and compacted. I'm willing to bet this has more to do with crime rates then gun ownership. same reason there's less crime in the country then urban areas. I imagine Oregon and Washington is as close to Canada as you're get in the states. We are pro gun but mostly left leaning. unlike New York/California which are left leaning anti gun or Texas which is a right leaning pro gun.
either way I find the use of violence even as a form of speech to be unsettling. I hope they treat his threat as serious as they treat the fugitive threats of the pro gun side towards anti guns.
Anyone listen to the recording?

People exercising their natural, constitutionally protected rights makes this guy mad enough to kill? Perhaps he's projecting when he thinks other people shouldn't be trusted with guns. Sadly, these kinds of statements are pretty common from the anti-gun crowd; I'm thinking specifically of the professor who tweeted that he hoped the children of NRA members were shot last year, among others.

Is that an accurate characterization of the law? If I claim to "feel threatened", then I may shoot whom I wish?

From a "Canadian perspective" how do you think the public opinion there might change if our "positions" were reversed?
In other words if, instead of the fun loving U.S. vacationers from the U.S. being the neighbor to the south, it is now instead, desperate Mexico and South & Central America? And you now have over 12 million new, illegal immigrants, some of whom like to bring along cartels and head removal? Do you think that would make any difference?
Do you think it might make you more cautious? Do you think it might make you think of your family's safety?
The drug trade is the cartel's business and the killing and crime because of it is constantly present. The increased drug trade (and in Canada also) and the overcrowding of prison forces criminals back on the street looking for a fix so robberies and home invasions are increasing.
It's really not surprising citizens here are buying more guns. Police, as always, have their hands full with the most serious offences such as murder, rape, etc., but police are not able to be "on scene" before crimes happen. It's up to the responsible members of our society to protect themselves and their families, there is just no one else available.
Here in the U.S., especially in large urban areas, many people, frightened of guns, say they would rather let the murders and rapists take/harm who they will (praying, of course, it's not them or "their" family) and let police hopefully catch them later on (or not). This makes absolutely no sense to me, and I'd guess, to many Canadians as well.

While keeping guns out of irresponsible hands is a noble desire, the method of carrying it out so that it's actually effective without trampling everyone else's rights is where the problem arises. I'd rather have them in too many irresponsible hands then regulate their lawful owners to death. Freedom has its price.
I'm not going to get into Canadian violent crime statistics right now but you are far from crime free up there, especially in big cities. John Q. Citizen in the USA isn't fond of turning his guns on other people but sometimes that's what it takes. I don't care of everyone has a gun or not but I think it should be up to each individual. I beleive that's actually that stance of the pro-gun lobby as well.

Here is the legislation, if anyone is interested.

You and AP should share a bridge.
I smoke,he wouldn't like that.Anyway,I don't get the T word,I just act like the typical smart ass Arkansan,if you ever ran the gauntlet of codgers whittling outside the courthouse you'd know what I mean.Plus I was a waitress at the local coffee shop, waited on the old guys at the Liar's Table. You don't get respect unless you can harass them. The sad thing is these old guys are dying off.You no longer see giant piles of wood shavings on the courthouse lawn and all the checker players are dead. They truly had the art of tr*lling down pat.But we didn't call it that,we call it pokin' and gougin'.

What T word? There wasn't one word in what I said that started with a T. In fact, there wasn't a T anywhere.

I see. By using that word that may or may not begin with a "T" (whatever it might be), you are accusing someone of being clever, intelligent and witty. Why not just accuse someone of being "clever, intelligent and witty" rather than, you know, that other word? Otherwise, some moderators might get their knickers in a knot and perceive an excuse to step in and spank people.
