White teacher makes black student address him 'Master'

The kid is surprising polite with the "yes, sir". His mom is raising him right.

Ironically, the kid is the master - as member of the public - to the civil servant teacher.

What more is there? The fact that the teacher even thought this was an appropriate thing to say means that this is the tip of an iceberg of a rotten culture that is still endemic throughout american society.

Perhaps the teacher didn't feel like he was living in the 1930s Soviet Union where you have to watch every word you say or else the NVKD might come get you. I've heard teachers make similar jokes, usually making light of the formality of referring to them as mister/miss(in this case sir) but maybe he meant as a racial one. I don't know the context and neither do you and regardless it was a joke that was apologized for, should the teacher get fired? Teachers can a lot of really bad things and not get fired in this country so a joke I don't think is going to do it.

Oh so I guess if teachers aren't even capable of being respectful kids shouldn't be, either. *shrugs*
Next time a conservative brings up how degenerate and vulgar society has become remind them they hate PC.

For this teacher to have been so racially insensitive to the psyche of this student either proves the said teacher is extremely daft, or is in fact racist. And the fact is, white guys like you and I can never truly grasp the hurtful power of racially charged words carry for people of color. To deny this is either extremely daft or racist.

Actually I have been around teachers like this. I am not black btw, am white. Some teachers will say flippant things to certain students for any old reason. This teacher could be racist for all I know or he could just have a lousy personality who doesn't take anything seriously. I have been around cliquey teachers who have a clique of pets who they cater to and allow to get away with practically murder all the while one or two students they constantly berate or make snide comments to, not letting them even open their mouths to speak without admonishment. It can be really lopsided and it's not just the teacher.
My mother used to teach and principals can be the same way with teachers. It's really childish some of them act like they never left their childish, immature behaviors behind when they graduated high school. They are caught in that mentality so long as they are in school just stuck in it. maybe because they spend all day with teenagers who are on that level and it just rubs off.

White people are all racist and should be exterminated! <----this phrase isn't racist if your not white its well justified and fact. The teacher was being a dumbass maybe a bullet to the head should cure his stupidity then justice would be served.

A white teacher in Iowa said something inappropriate to a black student.
Send in the National Guard!
Pay each student that heard it or may have heard it millions in damages!
Raze the school to the ground and and sew the soil with salt so nothing will ever grow on those grounds as a testament to the damnable act that took place there!

Trust me, it is white people that get more offended by this than anyone. I went to mostly poor black inner city schools, I know where the line is and if I didn't I would a lot harder time making it thru. Normal people are a lot more thicker skinned and can actually laugh at themselves unlike PC obsessed liberals who either choose not to understand or have a pathological inability to understand the concept of context. The PC police are trying to enforce their totalitarian language control on people, they don't want people to be to have thicker skin or be able to laugh at themselves or have any real discussion of race in this country. What end is there to it? There are a lot of people in this country that maintain their power and influence by racially obsessed culture, moving on is not an option for them.

I've almost literally heard teachers make the same joke word for word, I don't even remember if it was to a black or white or whatever student because the context was clearly not racial. Maybe this one was or maybe it wasn't, I don't know but the guy apologized so it should be squashed. It's not a bigger story than that and to try to tie it some bigger cultural issue is just laughable.

Where I work there is zero tolerance for "oops .... it was just a joke". People are expected to have a high enough IQ to understand what may be interpreted to be offensive.

Well, this kid didn't seem all that thin skinned to me, but he was obviously offended. I think it's safe to say, before saying something some might be offended by, you should know that person's sensitivity first.
