Group mentality = evil
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement:
Group mentality is always evil.
Yes or no, please argue when you answer.
EDIT: I should elaborate a little:
By group mentality, I refer to conforming to a group of ideals, ideas and policies, regardless of what YOU would have believed in if you were not subject to group pressure into conforming.
My answer is YES. I base my argument off the fact that group mentality is the root of bullying. It is the root of war. It is the root of crowding.
It is the root of fashion. It is the root of bloody and extremely violent brutal revolutions.
If we were all thinking different, and if we did never share the same ideals, ideas and policies, the world would be a better place.
Problems of humanity, except natural catastrophes, are all caused by humans grouping together.
I think this simplistic to say the least. Similar thing have been said about individualism.
Bullying happens in groups, also individuals bully.
Conformity doesn't necessarily, result in bulling, but I would advice against rigid conformity.
I would equally advise against being individual being intolerant of groups in general.
The root of violence is testosterone, animal behaviour, frontal lobe, ect. Culture is a meme(s), it is a merely a reflection of our nature.
Group behavior is not all bad, not all good.
Bullying happens in groups, also individuals bully.
But it is usually not as bad when individuals bully, as when groups bully.
I bet it is worse to be bullied by 10 people than by a single individual.
Not neccessarily, but conformity leads you to abandon your own thoughts and ideas.
While that is not bad in and of itself, as everybody can discover a better thought or idea, and should discover it,
if you conform to a thought or idea shared by others, you are less keen to accept better arguments in favor of another, better idea.
Group behavior is not all bad, not all good.
But the violence gets worse when done in groups.
