Why didn't Adam and Even die when they ate the fruit from the tree that they weren't supposed to? Didn't God say that they would die if they ate that fruit?

He said they would die if they ate of the fruit. He didn't say when.

Also, it doesn't necessarily refer to physical death (although it can). In that instance, Allah may have been referring to a metaphorical, spiritual death, the "death" of a perfect sinless life.

They did die- it just too seventy years, or actually several hundred years.

Before they ate the fruit they were immortal. After they ate they became mortal (like all of their descendants including you and I), but they didnt immediately die.

Becoming mortal was the punishment (on top of having to suffer other ways). Not being immediately struck dead.

In fact Adam lived several centuries after the fall, and begat a bunch of kids, including a son who begat other sons, and so on.

Personally, I think Eve was set up.

God: Don't eat from that tree
Adam: Okay.

God: Let's make you a companion.
Adam: Okay.

Eve: Hi!

(God floats away to check on something)

Snake: Have an apple?
Eve: Okay.

It's just a story, same reason why whatever movie doesn't end 10 minutes in.

If God had killed them for eating the fruit we all wouldnt be here.

They hadnt had any kids yet. So no kids would have meant no human race after that point.

These are just stories and not very well written ones.

It is stock full of nonsensical contradictions.

If this was reviewed as what it is, a work of fiction, it would be rated mediocre at best.

The Greeks and many other ancient cultures could write more interesting fables.

They both were set up.

God sticks a tempting fruit tree in the middle of the garden. Tells them not to touch it. But doesnt put thorns nor any other security devices on the tree. So its obvious that God knew full well they were gonna eat it.

But- yes - the story is a local variant of a universal myth. In the Pagan Greek version it was Pandora who unleashes all of the bad stuff in the world when she opened the box. So yes- the woman always does get the blame.

If it's true (I'm agnostic) then I think it's an allegory or parable.
Jesus is (supposedly) the Word of God made flesh, and he spoke to his disciples almost exclusively in parables. It was probably the only way they could even vaguely comprehend the types of things he was trying to tell them.

Slow-Poison. Also, this story is supposed to be metaphoric, not literal.

One of the many translation errors in the bible: god didn't claim that adam and eve would die from eating the apple, he just stated that they would become mortal (note the difference between "you will die" and "you can die").

The entirety of genisis can only be seen as metaphore, as all of it is demonstrably impossible, demonstrably false or internally contradictive, aside from the other issues: who did adams sons marry? some woman from the mentioned "other human tribes"? where did those come from?

Adams sons probably married Adams daughters and than multiplied hence forth.

In this case the definition of [death] is separation from God as much as anything else.

Also, if they had not eaten the fruit they would not have died but lived in the Garden forever (or until someone else ate the fruit, as someone would surely have done. Note the rebellion of their first son, Cain).

Also:

Quote:
who did adams sons marry?

Seriously? People are still trying this old wheeze in their attempts to discredit the Bible?

Adam had sons and daughters. Being only one generation away from absolute genetic perfection (no mutations existed as of yet), incest would not have been an issue. Therefore, obviously, Adam's sons married their sisters.

That implies a constant degradation of genetics, from the assumed 1st generation until now. It is also the basis of racism, sexism and any other bigotry based on the assumption that one group of inherent biological features is further from the Grace of God than another. Furthermore, it is also the very argument used for centuries to keep people with mental illnesses, Down syndrome & other developmental disabilities and yes, AUTISM from openly living in society. It's the reason so many of us in the past were kept literally locked up, due to the family's shame at being further from God.
