November 9, we'll all wake up and under half of use will have just experienced a crushing defeat and an ideological repudiation. The other half shouldn't get too cocky, if they want to have a country left to govern. I'm worried, and I worry about the long-term effects when one of the two biggest US political parties destroys itself trying to defend the wrongdoing of its nominee.

What will things look like this November? Next year? Can our electoral process recover by the midterm elections?

If the Democrats win, more of the same. If that's your thing, then little changes at least for the next couple of years.
However, there will be war. Putin said as much and that is one confirmed item. If a cold war evolves into a nuclear one everything changes.

If what is left of the Republican house wins, a lot of changes will be made across the board. Larger business will be affected, along with international ties and agreements.

If the Republicans lose, the party will have to change anyway because their message as demonstrated in the last 2 terms is very out of touch with the young conservative voter who does not identify with leftist economic and identity politics, even if they themselves are more liberal with social issues. They will have to adopt a libertarian approach or continue to slowly fade off.

If the Democrats lose, they themselves will also have to change.
The only outcome that will result in no change will be Democrats winning.

President Clinton's party will face unrelenting warfare from the Congress. At The new President's first address to a joint session, part of the floor will erupt in chants of "Criminal!" and "Lock her up!"

If the Republicans retain control of the Senate, there will be a constitutional crisis when Republican Senators declare they will never confirm any Justice nominated by President Clinton to the Supreme Court.

Neo Nazis, Christian Identity nutters and "Sovereign Citizens" across the nation will engage in murders and hate crimes against non-whites and democrats who will be labeled race-traitors.

The Republican party, in disarray after the elections, will become a vast circular firing squad with open war between the teabaggers and Trumpites, fiscal conservatives, moderates and religious right and far, far, far right.

Domestically, a shambles.

The Russians have no interest in a real war, so their tune will change after the election.

Relations with Duterte will drop through the floor, no matter who is in charge and the US will withdraw troops and aid while the Chinese move in.

Korea will antagonize Japan, Pakistan and China and will threaten to bathe America's cities in a sea of nuclear fire.

A crisis over the South China Sea will be averted and relations with China will steadily improve.

Pakistan will launch terrorist raids on India and India will launch raids on Pakistani positions in the Kargil.

Palestine and Israel will fail to make meaningful progress toward long term resolution of their conflict.

The US will try to assist the UK as it reels from the new realities of the post Brexit world.

Trump's going to lose, in my opinion. I wanted to write an open ended first post.

The Democrats will either win the presidency, win the presidency and the Senate, or run the table. Even if they get a majority in both houses, never underestimate the ability of politicians to fail. Remember 2008-10?

Mitch McConnell has shown himself to be completely without honor for the last 8 years, and will have no reason to change course if he keeps the majority. Criticizing President Obama for McConnell's own success in overriding the veto of the bill to remove Saudi sovereign immunity is classic Mitch.

Paul Ryan will probably get a few teabags off his back, and may have the votes to really do stuff.

The real problem is the Trump Party Channel, coming soon. We should not believe that Rwanda can't happen here. I'm not using that genocide as an example lightly. The specific mechanism by which it happened is frighteningly familiar to critical viewers of alt-right media.

If Hillary wins while divided on everthing else they will unite enough to begin impeachment proceedings on Day 1. If Trump wins the Dems will try and go throgh the courts and if that fails impeachment.

The Dems will continue to go to left and futher embrace Social Justice Warroirism no matter who wins.

Not sure we will be able to inaguarate a president on January 20th due to court challenges.

I will be feeling very unsettled even down here. The main thing is that you all stay safe, and maybe plan for not going out much in the days afterward for a while until things settle down, it is possible that some hotheads could take their rage out on others. I hope this does not happen, though certain elements seem so volatile that they cannot be trusted to behave in a civilised way if things don't go as they want.

I guess I might have to tuck my hair up under my hat and wear a logger shirt and work pants [IOW blend in better with the TPers/Trumpers up here].

Actually, I think that might be a good idea. Even wear a Trump badge maybe (if you can bear to).

Chances are that in three or fours days the hotheads will cool off and things will begin to calm down after that.

Yes, though that would be a different set of dangers. Doesn't seem very likely now. The whole world is watching.

I think the Republican Party is a lot like the Labour Party in the UK right now. Even though one might justifiably have a low opinion of the elected representatives, they don't really like their crazy leader. They consider themselves more sensible. Although they'll try to oppose the woman in blue, they know that ongoing legal challenges are unfeasible and will hurt their popularity.

Well, given that Hillary Clinton will most likely become the next President, and given that the House of Representatives will likely remain under Republican control for some time...

... the most important question at this stage is probably: Who will have a Senate majority after the election? And what will this mean for the future balance in the Supreme Court?

If the GOP retain their Senate majority, then we'll be looking at quite a lot of uncertainty wrt. the coming year. The question is if the Republicans will actually continue to stonewall the President on SCOTUS picks, or if party discipline (already heavily eroded by Trump) will crack.

If the Democrats claim a Senate majority... then US Conservatism is dead.
