Chicago Tribune: Jill Stein says she's raised enough money for Wis., Pa. election recounts

Quote:
Stein announced on her website that she has raised enough money to fund recounts in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania and was pursuing additional funding to do the same in Michigan.

George Martin, a member of the Wisconsin Green Party's coordinating council, says Stein's campaign will file a recount request by the state's 5 p.m. Friday deadline.

A new hope.

If the recount was in favor of Hillary, what would happen?

I'm not the best with knowing what would happen in that situation.

She would have to win all three States to change the election results. But these are the states with the discrepancies. It has to do with the automated voting machines. She says they are vulnerable to hacking.

This kind of feels like a bit of redemption for Jill Stein. After possibly stealing the election from Hillary she decides to make things right by pushing for a recount.

There would be memes, that's what.

Beyond that, I think anyone who tells you that this or that would definitely happen is overstating their confidence. It's very unlikely to happen, particularly as the deadline for filing in Wisconsin is today. The states are unlikely to support recounts without Clinton's express support, which doesn't look likely. And aside from Michigan, which is extremely close and could probably be swayed by simple error, there isn't much chance of any changes because there isn't much evidence of shenanigans, just the possibility.

Considering that the Russians were able to hack the DNC, I would put it past them to get into the results database.

Quote:
The academics presented findings showing that in Wisconsin, Clinton received 7 percent fewer votes in counties that relied on electronic-voting machines compared with counties that used optical scanners and paper ballots. Based on this statistical analysis, Clinton may have been denied as many as 30,000 votes; she lost Wisconsin by 27,000. While it’s important to note the group has not found proof of hacking or manipulation, they are arguing to the campaign that the suspicious pattern merits an independent review — especially in light of the fact that the Obama White House has accused the Russian government of hacking the Democratic National Committee.
New York Magazine: Experts Urge Clinton Campaign to Challenge Election Results in 3 Swing States

So there is a pattern that is linked to the mechanism used to vote. I think that's worth checking into.

Election recount will take place in Wisconsin, after Stein files petition

In order for Hillary to become the next president, the attempts to recount in Pennsylvania and Michigan must also succeed, the recounts need to be completed by December 13, and the recounts in all three states need to show the original counts were wrong. The odds are very long, but so many other things thought to be impossible actually happened this campaign season, so why not?

I am so glad she pushed ahead with this.

She's raised more money for this than she did for her campaign, and it's mysteriously getting more and more expensive, and what happens to any "extra" money more and more vague...

Hey, summer houses on Lake Champlain are expensive -- just ask Bernie.

"The fine print on her website tells donors that she cannot guarantee that a recount will happen and that any surplus money raised will go towards 'election integrity efforts' and to promote voting system reform."

My state went blue & I voted for Stein because I see the Democrats as center-right, in effect I find them complicit in a thinly obfuscated single party system. Also unlike most U.S. voters I enjoy myself outdoors.

I know better than to give my money to any politician for any reason but that's fine by me.

Spearphishing & data injection are two very distinct specialties within the hacking community. Yes they have the resources to do so, but so do more people with more such vested interests stateside.

Fox News: Clinton team joins Stein's three-state vote recount that begins in Wisconsin

Quote:
“Now that a recount is underway, we believe we have an obligation to the more than 64 million Americans who cast ballots for Hillary Clinton to participate in ongoing proceedings to ensure that an accurate vote count will be reported,” Hillary for America attorney Marc Erik Elias said on Medium.
...
Elias said the decision to join in the recount came after numerous meeting with experts.

He also said: “Over the last few days, officials in the Clinton campaign have received hundreds of messages, emails and calls urging us to do something, anything, to investigate claims that the election results were hacked and altered in a way to disadvantage Secretary Clinton. … It should go without saying that we take these concerns extremely seriously. We certainly understand the heartbreak felt by so many who worked so hard to elect Hillary Clinton, and it is a fundamental principle of our democracy to ensure that every vote is properly counted.”
