Washington (CNN)President-elect Donald Trump's transition team has signaled to congressional Republican leaders that his preference is to fund the border wall through the appropriations process as soon as April, according to House Republican officials.

The move would break a key campaign promise when Trump repeatedly said he would force Mexico to pay for the construction of the wall along the border, though in October, Trump suggested for the first time that Mexico would reimburse the US for the cost of the wall.
Trump defended that proposal Friday morning in a tweet, saying the move to use congressional appropriations was because of speed.
"The dishonest media does not report that any money spent on building the Great Wall (for sake of speed), will be paid back by Mexico later!" Trump tweeted Friday.

take (something) for one's own use, typically without the owner's permission.

There was traditionally a balance of powers.

I should also say that the prospective use of prison labor implies that people can be detained for profit.

Yes apparently he'd like to use taxpayer money to build the wall, but he says mexico will reimburse that money after the fact. Lol what in the hell makes him think Mexico will agree to this? I don't really get the impression Mexico has that kind of money to spare....and even if they did with Trumps attitude towards mexico why would they?

What is Trumps plan when they refuse to pay for it? Will he pay the taxpayers back?

Is this before or after the tax cuts?

Maybe Trump plans to save the US Tax payer money when he builds it.

By hiring only cheap labor ...from Mexico!

Garnishing all wire transfers, between the US and Mexico, which is not to mention their financial aid.

I always assumed the "make Mexico pay for it" comment was just an exaggeration.

I saw brown prisoners, being used to harvest smaller farms, in the Temecula-Murrieta area of Greater San Diego, and wholesale sites marketing their manufactured goods, from shoes to furniture.

To the best of my understanding, criminals sometimes serve sentences, before being deported.

Dissidents, called unprivileged belligerents, can be stripped of their citizenship, and there was discussion about ratifying the 14th Amendment, against anchor babies. Have you ever questioned any establishment, and where does your citizenship come from, if not by birthright.

In theory, anyone might be regarded as a criminal alien.

In practice, it might be more like Mexico, where the federales mostly leave ordinary people alone.

But, in 'Cracker Crazy,' loitering minority members were historically 'borrowed' from their bosses or conscripted, outrightly.

You would probably want to carry photo ID and have some good reason, to be in public.

Well I guess I should have said 'why' should they, all it will be is a financial drain and it does nothing to benefit Mexico. Considering its such a close country you'd think it might be a good idea to try and engage in some diplomacy and perhaps work with Mexico to address problems of illegal immigration instead, you know something a 'great nation' should be capable of. But I guess trump would rather antagonize and bully than actually try to work towards a solution that could be beneficial to both countries.

Mexico actually dislikes much poorer people, from Guatemala and San Salvador, burdening their system, en route to the US.

The wall also benefits Mexico, with the possibility of labor contracts, to build it.

It's supposed to protect against border crime, which usually affects Mexican citizens.

You may be right, but with the "lock her up" and "drain the swamp" exaggerations, some might see this as a pattern of lies and broken promises.

Does it fit a larger pattern with this person?

So you were just having a conversation with Mexico and Mexico said that it did not like Guatamalans?

The US government is not allowed to buy Japanese cars, do you think it would hire a Mexican company?

He would get crowds to chant "Mexico" in response to him chanting "whose gonna pay for it?" in his speeches.

So it was a point he kept hammering away at. It was not just momentary hyperbole. So Mexico paying for it seems pretty central.

I read Republican talking points. I don't assume that my vote counts. I don't believe in false, moral dilemmas. But, I did want to be aware of what was going on, around me, if not empowered.

They might use the word, subsidize, but basically do hire Mexican companies and labor, on both sides of the border.

If you wanted to break the situation down to it's simplest, mathematical parts, the business model is to collect govt grants. The rest is just superfluous details.

My experience working for the Feds is that we can not buy or hire from non-USA contractors, vendors or citizens.
