A New Battle Plan for the Left
Hi all. This thread is for the liberals and lefties here. 2020 is fast approaching. Our old political strategies are no longer working. That's why Trump won.
People and organizations change their political strategies as time marches on. That's obvious. Trump won the Republican nomination because the old "compassionate conservative" strategy of George W. Bush is finally dead. Nobody under seventy is fooled by it anymore. That's why Trump used the "red pilled alpha male" strategy instead. That was a good strategy. Trump was aiming for younger right-wingers who take r/theredpill seriously ... and he hit the mark.
IF we (the left) want to keep up, we need to change our strategy too. Listen to me and listen good.
1. Go deeper than ordinary anti-capitalist rhetoric: We've been trying to sell universal health care to the American people for quite some time now. That's all fine and good ... but we need to go deeper. We need to break free of the corporate chains using crowdfunding. We must speak without a corporate filter. Talk about how lobbying has destroyed democracy. Talk about how the original anarchists and libertarians were actually socialists. Talk about how the wealthiest eight people on earth own half of the world's wealth. Corporate liberalism must die. The phony "liberalism" of Barack Obama, the Clintons and MSNBC must die. From now on, anyone who minimises the importance of corporatism and class antagonism is a traitor to the left.
2. Promote left unity: Remind communists and anarchists that we are all fighting against the same corporate elite. Don't lash out at the anarchists/communists unless they show hostility towards social democrats. The political left, in its current form, is too heavily fragmented. We don't need to all agree with one another on everything. We just need to create a temporary alliance which consists of every person who is a threat to corporate power.
Donald Trump managed to get Neo-Nazis to vote for the first time in their lives. Perhaps we could do the same thing with anarchists.
3. Make sure Bernie Sanders runs again in 2020: We need him. We so desperately need his wise words.
Overall, the left desperately needs a revival of class consciousness. The left, in its current form, has everything except class consciousness.
I'd like to end the post with a message to the political right.
Dear Political Right: By voting for Trump, you have made something very clear. You no longer want to play nice. You want to play hardball. You wanna play hardball? Fine. Two can play at that game. We'll be able to counter your macho bro army once we have the anarchists on our side. I accept your challenge. Game on.

Yeah more running around in ISIS looking outfits committing vandalism and arson will do the trick I'm sure. Many liberals were saying "that wasn't us, those were anarchists", so I think it's a great idea to eliminate that pretense of separation. Let the jihad begin.
This is one of the reasons why I often find myself disagreeing with what is now referred to as "The Left" (and therefore no longer consider myself to be a part of it). Whatever happened to the concept of class war? It seems to have been forgotten. Some of my views on certain issues could be called "conservative", but I thoroughly resent the way in which (in the U.S. at least) the teachings of Christ have been hijacked by the fundamentalist, televangelist crowd who seem to think that the New Testament was written by Ayn Rand.
Christ was a capital-c Communist. That is just a fact. Look it up. Open up the N.T. to any page, and chances are you will come across a statement that supports this view. "Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common" - Acts 4:32, ESV
By the way, the views of Bernie Sanders would be considered to be in the centre of the political spectrum in most Western countries today, not "left-wing" at all. Universal health care is considered to be a basic human right where I live, and no politician would ever consider dismantling it if he or she actually cared about remaining in office.
The left has already screwed the pooch with their post-election tantrums alone to have a chance in 2020. People don't soon forget things like that...

Your forgetting everything.
Trump has an approval rating of minus 56%. Less than 40% of the country think he is actually doing a good job. If a president has that low an approval rating, people push for change, and supporters won't bother to vote, disillusioned with Trump.
The Democrats are leading the Republicans in the Congressional vote polls by 6 points. More people are turning to them.
If you watch the Trump protests and the Women's march one thing is clear. The left Wing base is extremely energized and wanting to stop Trump. If a base is energized and angry with the status quo, they push for change. The effect of this is that the Democrats could vastly increase their share of the vote in the 2018 Midterm elections and as a result sweep into power. It is after all the party that has the most energized base that will win.
No no they didn't wreak enough havoc . They need to really step it up and go full blown anarchist. That's the only way they'll win. And those @#%! rednecks have it coming.
Exactly.

We're only seven months into this administration.$hit don't happen over night and the true approval (or disapproval) of this administration won't materialize for another two or three years if that soon. Rome was not built in a day and I don't count on mainstream media to report much of anything positive about this administration to the masses.
In the meantime, if the democrats want to improve their odds they need to take a critical look at some of the key issues on their platform. Which ones you ask? The ones we've talked about here for years so there's no need to re-list them and potentially trigger a trollfest.

In the Senate, the Democrats are defending 25 seats the Republicans 8 so it will have to be a democratic landslide of massive to historic proportions for the Democrats to gain control of Congress in 2018. The house is doable but difficult as the vast majority of incumbents get reelected. In the special elections so far the Democratic candidate has done better than Trump but has not won. It is still my opinion that the Dems best chance is not Trumps "insanity" or Russia connections but health care. If Obamacare continues to crack they will still call it Obamacare but the voters would and should hold the Republicans responsible. Trump can hasten his wish for the the ACA fail by not enforcing it. There is no evidence that the Republican Congress unlike the Democrats can pass any replacement or any legislation at all in the face of unified opposition. The best hope for the Democrats ironically is that the too big to fail economy further entrenched by Obama's bailouts collapses. Wheather that will happen in the next two years is questionable. The Reagan Ponzi economy lasted 3 decades, the Obama Ponzi economy is in its 8th year.
The results of the 2020 congressional elections are more important than the 2018 mid terms and 2020 Presidential elections. The Congress is tasked with redrawing Congressional districts based on the 2020 census.

I think that the conservatives on this site are mad at me because they just don't understand the system or my position.
You want laissez-faire capitalism? Too bad! Laissez-faire capitalism is simply impossible. Whenever capitalism exists, the rich are going to control the government through lobbying and bribery. The rich are going to get subsidies because they will support candidates who give them subsidies.
Additionally, the weapon companies are going to promote war. The pharmaceutical companies are going to fight to keep cannabis illegal. In other words, lobbying would destroy your libertopia if it ever came into existence.
Can we end lobbying without ending capitalism? Probably not. Of course, the conservatives and right-libertarians refuse to even address this issue. You almost never hear right-libertarians proposing ways to abolish lobbying ... even though right-libertarianism could only sustain itself in a world without lobbying.
Furthermore, social conservatives would not be disenfranchised in a social democracy. They would still vote. For example, if most people in a social democracy disliked gun control, gun control would be abolished there.
I will admit that the far-left is largely responsible for creating this misunderstanding. That's one of the main reasons why I hate the hypersensitive SJW left. Socialism is an economic system. I just want to give power back to the masses, so that they can create the social law code which they prefer.
SJWs will still exist in a social democracy. So will social conservatives. I see socialism as an economic system. It exists independently of other progressive movements ... even if they frequently overlap.
"In what relation do the Communists stand to the proletarians as a whole? The Communists do not form a separate party opposed to the other working-class parties. They have no interests separate and apart from those of the proletariat as a whole. They do not set up any sectarian principles of their own, by which to shape and mould the proletarian movement."

Why do so many people on this website only seem to be able to talk politics in terms of left & right. From what I see the vast majority of people sit in the centre with the odd right of centre conservatism or left of centre socially democratic opinion.
True left wing & right wing positions are hardly ever taken up by people aside from tiny fringe elements who sit well outside the mainstream views.

What this disapproval shows here is that most Americans dislike Trump. This feeling of animosity towards him will evidently lead to more people turning against him for the next election cycle.
If you want to name a success of this administration I am open to hearing one. But for me I haven't seen anything in the wake of the fundamental reform he wanted to create. His healthcare bill was thwarted in congress twice, if you think about it.
