1) not all alarmism is wrong - the idea that the bald eagle was near extinction was objectively correct. It was only the alarm that led to a change in policy, and now the eagle is doing ok.
2) 6 degrees does not sound like much, but ask any climatologist (even if they don't believe in anthropogenic global warming) how much hotter it needs to be to melt the glaciers, or how much cooler it has to get to put us back into an ice age. Think of it this way - your body temp fluctuates through out the day. If you are exercising, it is quite a bit warmer. If you are in the cold weather (even with some insulation), it can drop a few degrees. But if your body's thermostat goes much above an average of 98.x, you will lose weight and have other issues. If it drops much below normal, you will have a very differnent set of issues.
