does this get on your nerves?

I'm not naming names, but it irritates the hell out of me when I make a point that someone can't counter, so instead of trying to counter my point they resort to insults. This to me is just immature and childish, and mentally weak and cowardly. But I guess it shouldn't bother me because I'm obviously winning the arguments with said person and other people like them who do this..... I mean most people at least try to make some sort of argument, even if it's a stupid argument. It's just irritating when someone makes no attempt to defend their point of view because they know I've got them, so instead they resort to throwing insults at me.

That's an ad hominem attack, or at least just plain trash. Shouldn't happen, but then again, as long as there are humans and differences....

wow, that is what they do when they have nothing else to say! They tip their hand so casually when they go for the personal attack and that is when YOU should say to yourself "ah HA! I really got them on THAT issue" and go on with your life.

ad hominum attacks are the barometer of the discussion. When they go for the personal you know you have them by the facts and they actually have no answer for the discussion.

That's why I don't usually participate in discussions about religion/philosophy here on WP.The narrow minded and mentally weak people seem to enjoy this particular forum. For the rest of us this is just a waste of time and energy.I come here only when I have nothing better to do. Some subjects are interesting though and some are fun, but those threads are usually hijacked by people who, for some reason, enjoy ridiculing other people's opinions.

I dont' say I lack humour completely, but to my mind most of the debates here are endless, pointless and plain stupid.

In an arguement, I always view personal attacks as the highest flattery and praise. It means I have won, and my opponent is no longer even trying to match me in the true debate.

To say that someone who resorts to abuse has no argument is kind of silly, all they have actually done is be abusive.
To interpret someones loss of control as a sign that they have no argument is an absurd response, they may merely be wound up or lack the communication skills.

@Snake321 - I have only been here a little while and have already been on the receiving end of your sharp tongue, oddly the last thing I assumed was that you had no argument, no, I merely assumed you had,

A/ a passionate attachment to your stance.

B/ were upset.

I find it unfortunate to sign in this morning to find the thread concerning gun/weapon ownership locked because people got out of hand.
Surely it is better to disengage from the conversation?

The one thing that pises me off more, is the one member here who tries to act like a bully, then accuses those who have stood up to his bullying, bullies.
