It looks like America, except dirtier.

Those photos were very likely taken before Mahmoud Ahmadinejad became president.

Tehran looks a whole lot like Denver.

I don't think I'll be going on holiday there any time soon, put it that way.

I've read Tehran has really bad air quality - more like Denver 40 years ago. Where my relatives lived, there were little brick things behind every house, and people used to burn their garbage.

While I have no doubt that Tehran is not the mud-house backwater that some imagine it to be, none of those pictures showed working class neighborhoods, slums, or run-down commercial/industrial areas. There is more to Los Angeles than 90210!

i wanna go to iran some day, looks beautiful! this might seem like a dumb question but would i be allowed in the country and left alone if i wasnt muslim? should i do away with my american clothes? what if i wore an ihsahn t-shirt, would that be considered offencive? thanks for sharing those photos, i'll be registering at those forums

I don't think you would encounter problems just because you are not Muslim. But if you were seen as promoting other religions, that could be a problem. They don't like Bahais there, and they tend to lock them up and occasionally execute them. Then there is the whole political aspect of it - will they think you are a spy? If you go as part of a group exchange or are visiting people there, less risk of problems. If you are just wandering around, some people might be suspicious.

I don't know much about ihsahn, but I think if people might interpret it as 'dark' or a challenge to Islam then it might not be good to wear that. While there is western music there, it is semi-underground. Even many Christians frown on dark metal as Satanism, though legally they can't do anything about it in the US or Europe. But in Iran, they might. I think it really depends - on things like who sees the shirt, how they react to it, how they interact with you.

No, there's no problem with not being Muslim, but I think I read somewhere that they don't like men wearing shorts..

Those photos look awesome. There's rich and poor sections in every country. The US news prefers to show the poor sections and the negatives of Iran to make Americans more likely to support a war against Iran. I'd like to travel the world sometime to see what it's really like outside of the US.

does anyone know the highest point of iran? i think you guys might be right about the shorts and clotheing attire also. i dont think i'd want to wear my ihsahn tshirt because it has a picture of lucifer with the words "adversary" on it

It's what's inside that counts. You can have all the nice architecture you want and still have a mentality unchanged since the bronze age.

^^ True, I can go to Sudan and pick the best touristic spots too for pictures , we were used to see such pics of Iraq too.

Iran is a great country historically. However, it is run by people more insane than those in America. If you do not believe that, then what can be said of you? Look through the history of Iran from 70s to present. The west had a big part in it, but it would be too easy to blame it completely on the West.

You'll be happy living in Iran, as long as you're not an ethnic minority or Bah'ai...and a suspected criminal.
