There's a series of articles on Stoicism at one of my favorite blogs here: http://www.boingboing.net/2010/10/27/tw ... ury-2.html
The second in the series is a very interesting discussion on dealing with insults in an effective and non-destructive manner. Typically I'm hypersensitive to them and I've had lot of trouble dealing with insults in the past.
May be useful :-)

Stoicism is a very good posture for aspies.

Not only it is practical in lots of aspects , but it suits naturally our aspie traits. And this is waaaay more important that you imagine: It gives to the external world a cohesion of who we are, preventing the others to be shocked and lost in front of what we are (trust) and covering us with an aura of mystery that makes us intriguing and interesting (interest). Trust+Interest=improved, more interesting relationships

Not only it suits us naturally, but it allows us to start to explore and evolve to something else.

Epicurism would also fit.

Totally :D You read into my mind

I see stoicism coming first though, as a necessary step, practically speaking, to exchange our early solitude cycle with another one. So my advice would be: don't leave stoicism until it has been understood as self-confidence by you and by the rest of the world and you start to make contacts.

Because stoicism is a bit simple, it is cheap to lay the foundations where the first traces of self-confidence will grow. It will be a good ground that favors interaction not because of what we think, but because of how we behave in front of the eyes of the world.
Because stoicism is a bit naive, our first natural interactions will allow our perception to gather, and our mind to process. We will naturally understand and soften, we will slide in the direction of Epicurism witch is less black and white and require a bit more experience of life.

I like to think that I am an Epicurian. But moderation eludes me from time to time.

Stoicism is good. I have endured through 62 years in this life, enjoying the good times and enduring the bad.

Our ancestors lived through wars and depressions and plagues. They buried children and still went on. They saw their crops fail and enemy soldiers burn their homes. If they survived then they carried on.

Marriage is "For better or for worse. In sickness and in health". Any marriage will include all those things.
If you are an honorable man or woman then you grit your teeth and keep on keeping on.

Apikoros is a form of moderation. It is not the gluttony depicted in Hollywood movies.

Apikoros is pain avoidance rather than mindless pleasure seeking.

Acquiring Stoic memes probably would not hurt. The dominant memes we have gotten from the Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam) have not done us much good.

Bring back good natured Paganism (without child sacrifice).
