Lets power through this. If anyones anyone can come up with the meaning of life, it'll probably be an aspie or autie (or speckie for anyone on the spectrum). So post the first meaning that comes into your head. I'll start. (Try to be original. ie. no 42's)

To perfect something.

meaning is only significant to the individual. shared significance is meaningless and so is meaning.

people always ask for the meaning of life like as if there HAS to be one.

such arrogance.

Yeah, you didn't quite understand the originality thing did you? Also there is little point of saying theres no meaning to life as then we wouldn't have anything to talk about. Not to mention the fortune cookie guys would go out of buisness.

there's plenty to talk about without the necessity of a universal meaning. people associate what meaning they wish on their own personal lives and there's not much more than that. different levels of meaning and some with loftier goals but it's not like there's some magic answer besides the obvious ones that have already been said.

and originality is overrated in such cases like this.

The meaning in life is to be arrogant over others having meanings.

There are no meanings to life, just ways you choose to live it.

I say this at the risk of sounding wise.

Ok, maybe you're right on those points, but what about the fortune cookie guys? Also the assumption that there is no meaning to life will really kill this thread.

Mean, measure, average. The golden mean. The meaning of life. Meaning associated to logic through numeracy. Complex systems within systems. Seems so simple. New age poetry.
I believe the basic meaning of life is to live, to change over time. To learn, to love. To learn to love. To Love to Learn. For good or for bad. Hopefully for better. What is better. Holistic mentality spread across the spectrum. Exploration. Testing patterns. Feeling the numbers. Happiness. Wisdom. Knowledge. always incomplete. Striving. Persuing. Dreaming, and waking. The staircase to heaven or use the ladder instead. Exercise in creative thinking. ?

Who knows why there is life or if it has any meaning, it would be nice to know if there is a reason, but I doubt there is an answer, anyone could agree on. My own thoughts on the meaning of life, is that we are are born, experience life, and maybe pass on our genes, then grow old and die, just like every other creature. My answer is fairly basic, I am not a believer in "god" but I do believe life has some sort of plan, who knows what that could be.

I would say the purpose of life is.. that organic life acts as a platform for consciousness to evolve on..

While rocks.. water.. and gases act as a platform for organic life to evolve on.

Without life there could be no consciousness.

Without consciousness the universe wouldn't exist.. in the manner that we experience it.

The observor.. and the observed.. exist in a relationship.

We know a lot about the objective world that we observe..

But not so much about the observor.. the seat of consciousness.

What is it really.. this seat of consciousness that we so intimately identify with.. ?

Maybe if we could understand this.. we could grasp life's pupose.

Imagine the universe suddenly ceases to exist.. so there would be nothing to be conscious off.

Then the universe reappears..

And we realise its purpose.

If I turn the light off..

I realise the purpose of light.

So.. I turn it on again.

It's that simple.

----

"As far as we can discern, the sole purpose of human existence is to kindle a light in the darkness of mere being."

Carl Jung

I agree. Except about arrogance. It isn't, just a way for people to cope.

Until you determine the meaning of meaning the question is meaningless.
