Do you have a strong sense of community?

Aspies often get blamed for not having empathy, but I think that even more than that, they (me included) lack a sense of community.
That requires a lot of social feeling and theory of mind, and I think that's why it's particularly demanding for myself as an Aspie.
I'm not talking about liking your community, I'm specifically talking about having a social awareness of it.

Apart from an individuals proclivity towards a sense of community, there seems to be strong geographical factors involved. In England for example the sense of community seems to be on the decline. Fifty years ago people knew and talked to their neighbours and had a sense of community. Nowadays people talk less with their neighbours and some don't even know neighbours who have lived there for many years.

I understand this lack of community is worse in larger towns and even neighbours in appartment blocks ignore each other rather than even say "Hello".

Here in France there is a much stronger sense of community. It is common for neighbours to visit each other bearing gifts such as vegetables from their gardens and having a coffee and chat. There are also more organised community activities and a sense of sharing and helping each other. France is more "people" oriented than "thing" oriented, so family, neighbours and community are more valued than other countries.

Oddly enough, I tend to form extremely strong group loyalties. In many cases, I will work harder for the furtherance of group aims than I will for my own ambitions.

well, I believe I do have empathy, sometimes too much, but I do lack the sense of community.

I am very loyal to friends, but rarely do I feel strongly connected to impersonal forces. Probably because I have gone my anarchist direction. I used to have more patriotic feeling.

I somehow do feel connected to impersonal forces, which makes very little sense. I'm not terribly big on nationalistic patriotism, though.

I would if the people in my hood and my city were more friendly and accepting of me....

This may or may not be a stupid question, but what is a sense of community?

Weird, that's how it's for me, too.

I have none.

I don't understand patriotism nor national/racial pride, nor any other group "pride".

I've noticed that I exhibit the same behaviour with the local Baha'i community. I love to bond and interact with them, looking forward to the 19 day feasts and weekly prayer meetings (at individual homes) quite eagerly. ^^

I love my religion.
