What if your religious beliefs were UNDENIABLY proven false.

Lets assume, for the sake of discussion, that this were possible.

Discuss.

Is it like that feeling when your parents tell you there actually isn't a Santa Claus? I'm getting all wet in my eyes now. :(

Not possible. Religious beliefs are designed to be basically unassailable by logic since an all powerful God can be assumed behind every unknown and the number of unknowns, if not infinite, is overwhelmingly large.

I suppose that I would have to say sorry and hope that He was not going to be forgiving and not vindictive. The worst would be Orwell saying 'told you so, you listened to me on censorship but not the really important one you commie bastard'

I would shrug and except my eternal damnation.
Either in hell or as a flea, depending on which theory is being discussed.
Eternal damnation doesn't frighten me.

That happened to me. A lifetime of work, study and practice withered overnight when Occam's razor pruned god from my life. Another year past that, and all that was left was an asperger's diagnosis.

A good reason for not having any religious beliefs in the first place, the odds are that they will be incorrect anyway. Having beliefs is just denying logic, reason and the evidence around and accepting make-believe to be true. Religious beliefs are the adult version of Santa and the tooth fairy.

Instead of just accepting more make-believe it is better to investigate what beliefs one has already absorbed from society, peers, parents and teachers and discard the ones that are without foundation or are clearly false.

Life is so much better if you are not carrying around other peoples bogus assertions in your head and you are free of them to live your life without them.

I suppose I'd start looking for new beliefs.

i have no religious beliefs.
i have no disbelief in religion either.

i have not registered any magical ideas in my mind because i can not grasp them.
if there is a god, then he made me the way i am, and he did not give me much mental apparatus to think about him.
so i am innocent of my ignorance and he knows it. because i am not a spokesman for any god, i will never say anything incorrect about any god.

ignorance is different to imperception. ignorance is where a person truly perceives something and they then choose to ignore it.

imperception has the same result as ignorance, but is innocent due to impotency of imagination.
and if god exists, he wired me to be blind to him.

i do not know if god exists, but i think it is a rather miraculously correct sequence of events that made me conscious and living for this blink in time.

i have no fixed beliefs about religion and i never think about it, so i have no beliefs to be disproven.

About the same as finding out Santa does not exist and the Tooth Fairy is mom or dad leaving some money under the pillow. No big deal.

No you wouldn't! You are a zealot, Orwell! A fighter for your cause beyond the bounds of all sense! You would destroy the very notion of truth. Just stab it with hacking stabbiness until it died. That's what you'd do. Yes, yes indeed! :D

Well, as the saying goes: If at first you don't succeed, perseverate!

Pretty much, but that doesn't necessarily falsifies religion.

Few religious do that, but always within their own beliefs, and to accept other beliefs that "make more sense", it all comes down to a belief system, any, which it could possibly be false anyway.

well, I hardly think that's even possible, as it is part of our human nature to do so, and what is a "bogus assertion" or not is a matter of perspective.

Yes, religion, in the case of Christianity, can survive anything that seems to be threatened by few contradictions believed to be found and proved, but it has happened before, and it has survived, shaped their views, evolved, etc. I think the real issue is within individuals, a person can start to develop a "crisis of faith" and doubt his beliefs, given some external factors, outside his own belief system, and possibly some factors inside the system as well, but that seems more of a personal issue than religion in general.

You failed to read this line:

Which makes your post completely pointless. With this line, it doesn't matter at all if it is possible or not.
